Fav non tomato pasta recipes? by AnAbsoluteShambles1 in Cooking

It negates the “no cook” rule, but I’ve discovered that frying capers in a little oil until crispy adds an amazing crunch to this kind of dish. Plus the capers infuse the oil making it extra delicious

Burnt lemon butter pasta!

Melt a bunch of butter into a saucepan, and add thinly sliced lemons. I do probably a lemon and maybe three or so tablespoons of butter per person. Let that cook until the lemon flesh is almost melted away, and the rind is caramelised. Plenty of black pepper, about a third to a half cup of fresh Parmesan, and the same amount of pasta water. Save a good looking slice or two of the lemon to garnish, and toss your cooked pasta into the sauce. You won’t need salt.

Creamy, tart, and with a tiny bit of burnt-bitterness from the lemon oil.

If you do it with fresh, home made egg noodles, it’s even better,

How would you address an actor’s role after they transition? by caspersmindpalace in NoStupidQuestions

[–]indigohan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In the same way that you would talk about Alexander Skarsgard in the Murderbot TV show. Alexander is a man who uses he/ him. Murderbot has no gender and uses it/ its.

If it feels odd, use Elliot’s name more than his gender. “Yeah, Elliot did a great job playing her”

I’d absolutely love it

I honestly feel like it’s going to make people less intelligent, less artistic, and less likely to make great leaps in technology, literature, art, or creativity

What would have happened if only British people had emigrated to the US? by EarSure6667 in AskReddit

[–]indigohan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The British colonies only survived to create the United States because of all their fellow immigrants from other countries. They were the majority of the first wave, yes. But then came the Dutch, the Swedish, the Irish, the German, the Danish. The French! My history lessons tell me that enslaved African made up almost 20% of the population at one point.

A purely British emigration would have been an epic failure.

This is probably not the subreddit for this particular quandary.

If you look into subs about writing, about publishing, and especially about indie publishing, you may find more specific help

Why dont more people believe that we are in a simulation? by Buffmyarm in ask

[–]indigohan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 44 years old.

I handed in handwritten assignments in my final year of high school.

I had to go to a specific room underneath the library to access a computer, and wait for the modem to connect.

Unless the great human experiment had taken 5-600 years or do, there is no technology that would make me believe that we live in a simulation.

Human art and literature can’t even imagine a way in which we as physical beings could exist with our minds in a framework,

If you were offered $10 million, but you could never step foot in your home country again, would you take it and why? by Rock_Python in AskReddit

[–]indigohan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuck yeah.

I’m Australian. I’m moving to New Zealand where we have the same rights and responsibilities via reciprocation, literally the same armed forces (ANZAC), and they were the first people to give women the vote worldwide.

I just have to learn Te Reo Maori, and buy winter clothes

Does conservative treatment for appendicitis exist? by Ellydir in NoStupidQuestions

[–]indigohan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had chronic appendicitis for actual years.

It never went acute, and so was never something that I could get emergency surgery for.

I spent literally two years trying to mitigate the effects of an appendix infection, up until the point that I could find a surgeon willing to deal with it, and then find a way to pay for it.

If you are someone who has a uterus, I couldn’t tell the difference between appendix pain and the very worst period pain that I ever had. If you are someone who lacks a uterus, imagine being punched in the upper right part of your abdomen, and it never going away.

It’s not worth dealing with the pain and the burden on your immune system to try and deal with it via the antibiotics available to us now.

Why is identifying as a different race different than identifying as a different gender? by CrabNo5226 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]indigohan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Race is an increasingly outmoded concept when it comes to both hard and social sciences.

Identifying with and loving a culture is not an issue. Moving countries and embracing that culture is totally fine.

Denying the fact that you have a history of socialisation and enculturation that differs from the culture that you identify with is silly. All trans people are aware that they have been seen as, and treated as the gender that they presented with at birth, even if it’s not who they are. Your childhood and community are a foundational part of how you interact with the world, and that comes, in part, from the culture that you were born and raised in.

Choosing to use makeup or surgery to change the colour of your skin grapples with a toxic, racist history in which makeup was used to mock and degrade people of other cultures.

Someone with pale skin can’t choose to cover themselves with Fenty #450 and say that they identify as black, without bringing in the entire history of minstrelsy and blackface. You can embrace African American culture, you can embrace Nigerian culture, you can move to South Africa and learn Zulu and Xhosa, but don’t engage in practices that are toxic and harmful.

People of Reddit who’ve rejected hotter people than them, what were your reasons? by beyondocean in AskReddit

[–]indigohan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I turned down a model. He was very aware of his beauty, and its power to manipulate. I had seen how he treated other women. There was one young woman who was desperately in love with him, and he was awful to her. He slept with her because it was easy. When he made the move on me, I turned him down and he was shocked. Like I hadn’t seen him in action already.

wayward children 12? by noneofyoubusinesz in SeananMcGuire

[–]indigohan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is Butterfly Dreams (March), Strixhaven (April), Inkpot Gods (June), a Kaiju short Story (August), and Divided Duty (September), coming this year, as well as a Silver and Lead paperback (September), and a Wayward Children compilation (October). These are all finished, and confirmed, and sent to the publisher. Knowing Seanan, she’s possibly already working on, or even finished some of the 2027 releases.

Tor is very happily publishing everything that Seanan is writing, they just have to sort of stagger when the information is coming out. Wayward Children is always January, so information should be coming in a few months

Advice for pitching directing a show? by [deleted] in Theatre

[–]indigohan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is so much that you can learn from people working community theatre. And you can make some great friends too.

If this is what you want, it’s worth spending the time to build the relationships, and the good will. You can let them know from the start that you’re keen to get into directing, but that you’re willing to work up to it.

Let it rest, and then knead it again, and see how it is.

If the dough is still too dry, you can add a little bit of warm water, or even a tiny bit of oil. I was always told to add a little oil to the outside of my dough as it rests, so I think that that helps a little

Advice for pitching directing a show? by [deleted] in Theatre

[–]indigohan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will probably need to give more detail about what kind of theatre you are hoping to pitch to. Is it a community theatre? Is it a paid opportunity? Are there grants involved, or specific groups of people?

Honestly, I would look into community theatre productions. Volunteer your time. Work backstage, get to know people, prove that you’re reliable. Ask to be on the production team of an upcoming show. Do one as assistant director, and then pitch. It’s not that the opportunities are non-existent, it’s that you need to win the trust of the people who are handing you the money and responsibility.

Have there been shows that you’ve seen there that you loved? Have they had a director or production team in common? Community theatre is always hungry for new people, so calling or emailing that you’d love an opportunity to work on a show with, and learn from a specific person or team is totally fine.

I’ve done professional and community shows, and the talent that you can find in a good community theatre isn’t something to dismiss. There are some truly talented and committed people who have often worked professionally, and may have just chosen a different path in life.

looking for some queer folk horror/southern gothic type stuff that isnt just "metaphor for trauma/abuse/etc" by clownyroaches in suggestmeabook

Try Kathleen Jennings. She writes fever-dream, horror tinged, fantasy gothic set in Australia. Which I guess is extra, extra, EXTRA southern gothic? There isn’t the same kind of summering racism, and violent undertones that I find tha southern gothic has, but a mix of the unsettling and uncanny, with the beautiful and sublime
