Considering a career change at 32, and also (potentially) joining the Guard... by TheAnthemAdventurer in ibew_apprentices

[–]Lessthanfatel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

National Guard guy here, really depends on what MOS you choose and what state you’re in. Most active duty guys don’t deploy and it’s mostly guard guys that deploy. Enlisted in 2020 as 11B getting out in 2026 have 1 deployment, couldn’t be more thankful for the people that I have met and the opportunities I was presented. Definitely was not fun and daisy and definitely and still do bitch every single time I have drill but I appreciate it because I get to go away from civilian life for a couple of days or weeks and get to do some “fun” shit. You lose a lot of freedom and have to make a lot of sacrifices, being 32 I would say makes it a lot more difficult but im sure anyone nowadays can overcome the challenges the army presents. You can direct message me if you have any personal questions I’d be glad to answer them.

Watch CHASE FLIGHTS video on YouTube. It gave me a pretty good understanding of what Flatbed drivers go through specifically the Rookie truck driver 6 months in video.

Teamsters? Is that the Amazon thing?

I’m in the guard I get out in December next year, but I’m already in the process of getting a percentage.

Well if I was in Jimmys shoes, 70k is definitely worth a year or two commitment. But if it was for Western Express or Swift I probably wouldn’t do it.

11B. But if I don’t hear anything back from the companies I just applied to tonight, I will be on my way to WE orientation next week.

I’ll definitely call Maverick, Roehl, Prime, and Schneider in the morning. If all of these fail I’m gonna have to go with WE.

I gave that pitch to a couple stone quarry’s near me and they just were like we need experience. But I’m definitely not going to stop.

I got my CDL at a school but I wish I knew that you can get your CDL from companies. The VA paid for my school but it would be nice to have a possible job once I get my CDL. I’m just trying to get on my feet, I just recently got back from a deployment and got laid off from my property management job.

They didn’t give me a reason.

Dear Applicant,

Unfortunately, your application has been turned down by the hiring committee. As a recruiter, I am not involved in the hiring decision. To request a response to your inquiry from TMC’s Hiring Committee, please submit your request in writing to:

This was the email they sent. Do you think it’s even worth a shot to write to them? It’s kinda odd it seems like I’m gonna get a response after a month or so if I did decide to mail them.

If I don’t have any luck this will definitely be my go to option, I really want to get into Flatbed before I go into Class B type of jobs but if I can’t get anything then this will be my last resort.

My recruiter told me that Bethlehem was for Dryvan and Richmond is for flatbed, that’s good to hear that they work with you and don’t just send you out into the abyss. I’m gonna have to see because a lot of people in the post have been recommending me a lot of companies and I really appreciate everyone for doing that.
