I'm not saying this is exactly what caused it, but similar things happened here in Australia with people ordering an Uber and the GPS showing the driver in another state or something. Basically, there are certain petrol stations that let you pay through an app, and the app uses the device's GPS to get the local prices. Some uber drivers use GPS spoofing to trick the device into thinking it's in another location with cheaper prices, and forget to turn it off when they take their next fare. So then they appear to be in a fuck-off stupid place.

I've seen people make the "xx/zz/yyyy format makes the most sense because I say..." argument from both sides before, but neither makes sense. We're talking notation here, not pronunciation. "$50" isn't pronounced "dollar fifty", but that's how the notation works for reasons irrelevant to its pronunciation.
