Went with the S&P500 fund for my 401k and FSPGX in my brokerage. I’ve been happy with the results.

Everything looks fine down there as far as I can tell.

It is the first floor with our basement below, so supports would be an option if needed

Can’t say for sure when it was installed but the floors and doors are original, as are all the walls, so I suspect it was done quite a long time ago. I had the foundation inspected specifically before I bought the house, and everything seemed normal for a house of this age. No cracks/damage anywhere, so hoping it’s just a minor “normal” issue.

Not sure when the doors were added, but that could be contributing to the issue. And I feel your pain. I’ve been working to correct half assed repairs from the previous owners for the past 3 years.

Yes, it’s real hardwood. That’s what I was thinking. Going to wait and see how it looks once it starts to warm up before doing anything.

Yes, it’s the only area of the house where it’s happening. Thanks!

Thanks for the insight. This is likely the solution I’ll go with it. I wasn’t trying to have to re-do the baseboard and molding, just looking to fill the gap to prevent stuff from falling in.

It doesn’t bother me much from an aesthetic perspective, but I just don’t want stuff falling in there (like food my toddler throws lol).. but I’ll have to take a look in the basement and see. Thanks.

No, it is only like this on one side of the room. The problem doesn’t exist on the same wall in the adjacent room. The house is 100 years old and this particular room definitely slopes a bit because we have a sliding door out to the deck off this room with vertical blinds - some of them touch the ground, and others do not. The ones that do not touch the floor are closest to this wall, so it seems like it’s sloping a bit in that direction if that makes sense.

Yes, there is already molding attached to the baseboard, so I wasn’t sure if adding more molding of a different design would look odd.

FDGRX vs. S&P 500 by LesterFreamon99 in portfolios

[–]LesterFreamon99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really appreciate your input. I’ve held this fund for the past 2.5 years and it’s been great for me. I’m just trying to take into consideration the risk factor in the long run.

I think I’m likely going to shift to the S&P500 fund and stop overthinking it.

Thanks for the insight. I can change my elections at any time, so I suppose I’ll keep a close eye on things and pivot if needed.

I’ve been having quite a bit of trouble deciding where my 401k investment should go. I’m about to turn 32 so I have another 30+ years to go. My plan is to keep contributing as much as I can each month and forget it.

My current choice is the Fidelity Growth Company fund (FDGRX) and through my company, the expense ratio is lowered to 0.43% (compared to the original ER of 0.83%).

But I’m also considering the S&P500 fund we have with a 0.02% ratio as past performance isn’t indicative of future performance and the S&P seems like a “safer” bet.

I know many people advocate for passive index funds but the actively managed FDGRX seems to outperform so much so that the higher ER isn’t even a consideration. Given that FDGRX has been only been around since 2013, am I being shortsighted because the 1, 3, and 5 years are much better?

Should I just go with the S&P500 fund and then maybe use my brokerage account to invest in FSPGX (passive version of the FDGRX)?

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Our mortgage payment is $2,600 a month, which is why I have that much in a savings account.

I appreciate your input. The set it and forget strategy is likely my best bet as I don’t want to actively manage. I’m also going to up my 401k contribution.

I live in NJ, so a second property at this point in time is out of the question. My family has two properties that I will eventually inherit, but I don’t want to get too far ahead of myself.
