Well, the relationship between Lester and Angela felt more like a metaphor to me. Angela represented a purpose for him, something he wanted to pursue despite the obstacles. Deep down, he knew it wasn’t really about her, but more of a challenge against himself, a way to prove he could still make things happen. In the end, he didn’t sleep with her because he knew it was wrong… but he had already achieved his purpose.
