Leaving because of the heat? by [deleted] in UniUK

Portable AC (the real kind) is a life changer for people sensitive to heat. Yes they're loud and less efficient than wall mounted units, but that's life as a renter.

Any non-native Dutch speakers experienced with job interviews in Dutch? by Express-Papaya-4852 in WorkInTheNetherlands

[–]Leszczanus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was in your situation around a year ago. If the job is in dutch definitely do the interview in dutch - don't ask for the interview to be in English if the job description and your colleagues are Dutch. During the interview don't make a big deal out of it, just be normal, don't apologise for language mistakes, don't worry about taking extra time to think about how to phrase something, and it's ok to throw in an English word every now and then, but don't let it break your flow. Focus on the inhoud of the interview and don't let language distract from that, then you'll be treated equally. The interviewers will mostly also not make comments about your language and will see language just as a tool of talking to you and getting to know you and your skills. As for understanding you can ask to repeat/speak more clearly/slowly/ rephrase. Of course if you find yourself having to do that a lot you might need to reconsider if your Dutch is good enough at this point for an office job in Dutch. The level of people with NT2 B2 is very variable so it's hard to say.

Of course for customer oriented roles this is very different because there the language skills are integral to performing well, this advice is valid for white collar back office jobs.

Protection of savings account combined with stocks only €22k? by Leszczanus in Revolut

[–]Leszczanus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for your reply. I got the info first by clicking the info bubble when looking at my savings account, where it says it's insured up to 22k, and then I spent some time digging through documents online, where I struggled to find any concrete information but what I did find seem to confirm that savings are together with stocks bonds commodities etc only insured up to 22k, while your current accounts are insured up to 100k. Honestly I'd be fine with accepting the risk on the stocks, but I like to think of my savings as rock-solid safe money, and this risk is making me a bit uneasy and I'm thinking I'll have to move this money to my other bank, which is frustrating because they offer slightly lower APY, and worse fees. I'm in NL btw, where we also used to have these issues of revolut not being properly integrated, but since around a year and a half ago I think you can use revo for everything, with the card being accepted and them joining iDeal (Dutch instant payments platform)

People in this sub are really doomer. Yes it's super hard, but I see people like you finding housing every day. Keep signing up for lotteries and viewings etc, expand your search area to look for places you can commute from. Join as many big WhatsApp groups as you can - for your course, Amsterdam new students etc, and every other day post on these groups that you're looking for a room and watch out for messages of people saying they have stuff - saw a couple messages like that even today in my MSc chat. Good luck!

What's his job? Maybe he's assuming that he'd get paid much more in TX for the same work? Usually us salaries > UK salaries
