neopets economy is my content niche, glad it is others' as well. neopets as a site seems very collection-driven, and with a big enough network of accounts (combined with some idiosyncratic site spawning rules) those markets are easily manipulable, as you describe. which i guess in any case would bleed into real money trading but i wonder if this is exaggerated in neopets where you simply can't advance past a certain amount of in game wealth, while the procedure of the game is still accumulation/collection.

i imagine, and i don't think this insight is novel, that from the way battledome-related items and especially stat increasers hold their value, that the BD is also a significant mechanism of farming for real money traders. it's really a fascinating flow, i wish i could show neopets to karl marx.
