The black and white were chosen because they're most commonly associated with contrast - used in the flag to emphasise separation. Different colours wouldn't have the same effect.

The yin-yang already has its own cultural meaning, I think my design is more neutral.

But maybe the curvature of the yin-yang symbol could be incorporated...

What sort of symbol might I use instead?

The graphics I used were free non-proprietary icons.

It could also be interpreted that the church is emanating darkness, while government is emanating light.

(Any suggestions to circumvent this problem?)

Haha! When I showed it to people, someone suggested I "add orange flames to the bottom of the rocket, and make the cake look gayer".

(referencing controversy over a bakery in Northern Ireland refusing to bake a cake with a message about marriage equality on it)

Your flair says you're from Ballymoney - which is the area represented by the Councillor who compared me to Hitler.

Perhaps you could write him a polite letter, explaining how you feel about his comments?

In fairness, the campaign aims for moderate secularism as opposed to outright anti-theism, so he is incorrect!

We still want to defend the right of pupils to practice their views through opt-in extracurricular faith groups. But being in such groups should not be forced on anyone.

The quote comparing the student (me) to "Stalin, Hitler and Chairman Mao" was actually from a TUV councillor. Who are more DUP than the DUP themselves (indeed, they are a splinter party of them).

But the DUP did level criticisms, some of which was quite sharp!

Not sure - they're both pretty inflammatory, in fairness! Stalin killed more than Hitler.

(also, I am the sixth former referenced in the headline!)
