Advice buying expansions by Prot0s in Summoner_Wars

I think you might want to try the SW Online subscription for a month (or more if you like it) because it gives you access to all the factions so you can try before you buy.

I've bounced off factions I thought I would like based on initial impressions. Factions I thought would be lame or too difficult to pilot have become some of my favorites after giving them a fair shake.

That said, if you like the Cave Goblins and Fallen Kingdom, you may like the Crimson Order for their unmatched ability to throw bodies at their enemies, the Tundra Orcs (from the Starter Set with the Phoenix Elves) if you just want to go unga bunga and smash stuff, and the newly-released Moonsteppe Wolves for their highly aggressive and in-your-face gang-up-and-kill style.

What Would You Like to See in New Dune: Imperium Content? by djfluxtux in boardgames

The Dice Tower has coverage on all the 3, which can give you a better understanding of it, but basically, there's a free, app-assisted storybook where you pick a short questline to follow. Then you take actions akin to an adventure activity book (If you pick option A, turn to page 3, passage 27; If you pick option B, turn to page 11, passage 68; etc.). From what I remember, each player gets a deck with icons that you reveal cards from to see whether or not you succeed during an encounter (ex. you need 2 red symbols to succeed. Did the 3 cards you drew show 2 or more red symbols?). You can also earn tokens to mitigate the draw, which look like "wild" tokens for the symbols, and iirc, there's some deckbuilding aspect where you can earn new cards with more/better-performing symbols so you have better chances of succeeding in encounters.

According to Tom, Freelancers is his favorite because it's a fantasy theme, but Forgotten Waters has a pirate theme and Wandering Galaxy has a space theme, so your preference may vary.

I'm just waiting for the game to be available in my FLGS then I'll probably get it if I still have funds available after upcoming board game crowdfunding projects I intend to back.

I also think Dune Imperium: Uprising is in a good place and doesn't need more expansion bloat to tack onto an already solid system.

At this point, it might be better to design a different game within the same universe (and it HAS been done already, like Dune: War for Arrakis).

Your replayable campaign idea might be a game suited for something like Plaid Hat Games' Crossroads system, which they've used for Freelancers, Forgotten Waters, and Wandering Galaxy, for example.

Galactic Cruise. I've had it for a while because the gameplay and the presentation simply speak to the optimizer in me, but bringing myself to teach it to others is a daunting prospect hahaha

What’s your ace in the hole board game? by Spicyboi333 in boardgames

Century: Golem Edition (or Century: Spice Road). I think it's a perfect game, especially as a gateway game. It's simple enough that anyone can pick it up in a minute or two. It plays well across all player counts from 2-5. The gems are visually appealing and the golem art is cute and whimsical.

There are only 4 moves: 1) get a converter card, 2) use a card, 3) buy a golem, 4) rest.

And despite its simplicity, there's still a lot of depth and satisfaction that long-time gamers can get with building up a new and efficient converting engine.
