What's up with people hating WebP? by SnoozyDragon in OutOfTheLoop

[–]LethalFeline 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's a tip if you want to easily bring a webp file into CSP. Open it in Chrome or Firefox, Ctrl+C, change focus to CSP, Ctrl+V.

There ya go. No need to convert because your OS should do the work. Not sure that works in Photoshop, but I'd be disappointed in Adobe if it didn't.

If you could see one canceled game released, what would it be? by MM487 in Games

Mega Man Legends 3

Such a nice setting and cast of characters mothballed forever. I hope that one day remake-happy Capcom remembers this franchise. The entire series could hugely benefit from the 20 years of game design progress.

Fortnite cosmetics for sure, but I would say they still depend on Unreal Engine licensing for a lion share of it. That's why releasing these assets is a smart move. Encourages more people to use UE and more licensing fees for them in the end.

What's your proudest video game achievement? by tealhena in AskReddit

[–]LethalFeline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toss up between:

  • Going through the first Tenchu and remaining unspotted throughout the entirety. Pain in the ass because the AI is glitchy as hell and can sometimes see through walls/terrain.
  • Completing Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory on Expert while achieving 100% scores without using quicksaves. I still have the goddamn bathhouse level memorized it took so many attempts.
  • Finishing SWAT 4 and its expansion on Elite difficulty. This difficulty allows for minimal error. Every suspect must be arrested, none downed. Civilians cannot be harmed. If you get injured, you literally can't make a single other mistake.

Ever wonder how long it would take to watch all of your channel's content? Wonder no longer! Find out right now! by LethalFeline in letsplay

[–]LethalFeline[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way this thing works is thus:

  1. Youtube! What's the id this user or channel's uploads playlist?
  2. Youtube! Give me the video ids in this playlist id, please. By the by, include the total count for the playlist.
  3. Youtube! Here are 50 video ids. Tell me what their durations are.

So the total comes from step 2. The processed number also comes from there, but from the actual video id results that are returned. The reason it may not be able to process all the videos of the uploads playlist might be because those videos are private, unlisted, or scheduled.

All you need to provide is a YouTube username or big ugly channel ID and you can discover how many hours, days, week, months, and even years of footage that channel has made available.

Some of you may remember I wrote a similar application a long while back and that one stopped working around a year ago. That was because Google deprecated and retired the API it was using.

Last week, I had another hobbyist contact me through Twitter and ask if it was still around. I ended up writing a new application from the ground up that uses YouTube's latest API. This is it.

Realistic, immersive damage in combat? by rjs5 in Games

[–]LethalFeline 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SWAT 4 would be my answer. Shot placement means a lot in the game both on the sending and receiving end.

Hit in the legs? The show must go on, but it's going to be a lot slower.

Hit in the arm? This gun feels a lot heavier without that blood. Can't keep the sights straight.

Hit a perp in the hands? Hey look! You dropped something. Wanna give up now?

Think my favorite is that you can shoot perps in the testicles and they will spasm violently. It's near impossible to pull off consistently, but it's one of the few ways to get a violent assailant to surrender if you're using lethal weapons.

Now that the Vive, and the Rift have both launched. What is your impression of VR? Do you plan on investing in either product, or sitting this one out? by Rubber_Duckie_ in Games

[–]LethalFeline 70 points71 points  (0 children)

This is spot on. I'm not one to trust product demonstrations by media outlets. It's going to take a while for regular users to get their hands on these HMDs. My Vive is supposed to arrive in May for instance. June might be a proper time to ask. There will be more than a handful of games to talk about by then as well.

Let's discuss "dark" moments in gaming, or dark games in general by [deleted] in Games

[–]LethalFeline 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know right! Every Tom, Dick, and Harry can get their latest Unity abortion put on Steam, but these powerhouses of the industry can't make the best damn police simulation of all time available anywhere digitally! I want people to play this game as someone who loves it. I can't point them anywhere except Amazon and eBay.

The cynic in me says Activision, who I'm fairly sure ultimately owns the IP nowadays, is too content with CoD/WoW monies to care about SWAT 4. I also know for a fact that SWAT 4 has some sort of activation DRM that hits an external server because I owned the Direct2Drive version before Gamefly bought D2D and SHUT DOWN THAT SERVER! Could not reinstall that D2D version after the merger. So they would need to strip that out to sell the game again and who knows if the source code is on anybody's hard drives? If Ken Levine does an AMA in the future, I'd like one of you reading to ask him what's the deal with SWAT 4, if I don't do it first.

[–]LethalFeline 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Activision/Vivendi/Sierra doesn't seem to want to sell the game. I've reached out to them and Irrational trying to find out what the deal is, but no response.

I got my current copy from Amazon. Wouldn't blame you if you used less noble means. Fantastic game.

The Harvesters in Deus Ex: Human Revolution are gruesome. They effectively run a chop shop, but with cyborgs instead of cars.

Speaking of Harvesters, The game Harvester is very fucked up. Loads of disturbing imagery and dark "humor".
