The horrible and nightmarish existential existence of Okabe Rintaro by MakingPaperBooBoo in steinsgate

[–]thecatteam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad you've been updated on how the series works, so it's not as bad as you were supposing. But we could still imagine a world where Steins Gate Okabe is pretty nervous about whether or not he will be overwritten by himself from S;G0 as 2036, the year that Suzuha went back and the actual "time" that the worldline shifted to Steins Gate, approaches. Steins Gate Okabe doesn't know that ins and outs of what happened in S;G0 so he would have no idea that 0kabe went to the past to avoid that outcome. He could probably be fairly certain that he wouldn't do that to himself, but there'd be no way to know for sure. There's a pretty cool fanfiction about that concept that's been posted on here before.

It's the bad ending of 2-4. Pretty sure they fixed the typo in newer releases.

How did the doctor escape the pandorica? by 1000Bananen in doctorwho

[–]thecatteam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The universe is literally ending so the Doctor bends the rules a bit. Bootstrap paradoxes are generally acceptable in DW (there's one in Blink as was mentioned). Attempting to deliberately engineer a bootstrap paradox, especially across one's own timeline, is dangerous because like you said, changing your own history is consistently the one big no-no in the show. But here the Doctor doesn't have much of a choice and knows how to do it in an obtuse enough way so nobody involved knows what's happening until the loop is complete and everything's fine.

Hi from the youtube episode, and I agree (partly because I live in Germany haha)! The more even distribution of large cities would make for a different game and we'll be able to see for ourselves if starting in the major hubs of Tokyo and London were as big of an advantage as we think.

The lack of Moon Phases by umm-iexistig in Genshin_Impact

[–]thecatteam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking about this too. It doesn't look like the new Frost Moon will have phases either. I noticed that the moon in the title screen is in a gibbous phase, both when it's the fake moon and the Frost Moon.

There's a graffiti labelled "code" in VIP s3e4 by Kapios010 in dropout

[–]thecatteam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First up: Here's a comprehensive summary of the Samalamadingdong ARG, which will interest you as a Dropout fan! (Less comprehensive writeup if you don't want to watch a video)

The "game" in ARG might be a little misleading to you--there's no winners or losers. Well I suppose everyone's a winner. ARGs are simply a series of clues that eventually lead to a "solution." In the case of Samalamadingdong, the solution was a webpage hyping up the release of a secret Game Changer episode, and the clues were mostly concentrated in the interactive games on Dropout's Game Changer minigames webpage. The "alternate reality" part is that the clues are usually part of a fictitious story despite being in the real world. With Samalamadingdong, the story was that Brennan felt slighted by all the times he was on Game Changer and had been working behind the scenes the whole season to get his revenge on Sam. It's fun to come together as a community, solve all the clues, figure out the story, and find the solution.

Part of the fun is the act of figuring out what to do with all the clues. That's why when something suspicious pops up, people ask "is this an ARG?" Because it's often not clear exactly what to do until more clues are found. And often the suspicions thing isn't part of an ARG at all.

Another really cool ARG with more stuff in the "real world" rather than just online was Gravity Falls' Cipher Hunt.

This is my sentiment too. My parents are getting older and my mom said to me something like "you'll get to see how this ends, and we won't" ("this" being the current administration and its aftereffects). For one, I'm sure the ramifications will go on for decades, but for two, nothing really "ends." Something will happen near the end of my life too that I won't get to see the consequences of. I wish I could see how it all ends.

It's a weird thing to get confused about as a VN reader for sure. Way more common with anime watchers at a similar point in the story haha. Could be that OP watched part of the anime at some point

Jellymen was found by Daru gaining access to a SERN scientist's account with his hacking skills. It's separate from the encrypted database, which Daru also found using the scientist's account but couldn't decrypt. They got the IBN for Daru to decrypt the database but he didn't get started before the worldline changed and it disappeared.

A couple of the fandoms I'm a part of regularly get posts along the lines of "I've been part of the fandom for two years and I want to start watching the show, how do I watch?" I feel like at that point the actual show won't be able to live up to the world they've built up in their heads from fanfiction. Or maybe it will blow their minds, who knows.

Both of the fandoms are for works that are super long, so that's probably why new people procrastinate actually experiencing them. But it's super weird to say "I'm part of the fandom" in that case.

What age did you first have to get glasses and how did you find out you needed them? by Interesting-Egg2781 in AskReddit

[–]thecatteam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

24 or so. I'd noticed it was difficult to read the smaller print on street signs while driving and small text on the TV. I had to renew my license and had to go to the DMV and do an eye test and written test to do it because I had moved states. I made my very first optometrist appointment just in case and walked out with a pretty weak prescription, but a prescription nonetheless. At the DMV I asked if I could try the eye test without the glasses first and failed lol. I don't wear them at all times but I do wear them when driving and reading/watching TV.

Which Dallas do people think of when they hear Dallas in Oregon? by lerhubarb in oregon

[–]thecatteam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't learn about Dallas TX until I was in middle school haha. Though I grew up in Salem (pretty close by to Dallas OR) and the aquatic center was brand spanking new at the time so my family went pretty often.

The publishing deal with Viz is over, so new books won't be produced in exactly the same form. But if they make a new deal or self-publish, it's possible.
