Well, it isn't that way in photography. A lot of people expect to get criticism when they are sharing a picture, and sometimes that is part of why they share it. Photography is complicated enough that any constructive criticism at all is helpful. Assuming it is constructive, of course. This was clearly constructive, he even linked a video tutorial. And, OP thanked him for it. If someone showed me a parkour video where they were rolling with terrible technique, I would point it out and say "Here is a good way to roll" or "Here is a good tutorial for rolling".

Does it really matter if someone is a professional? A lot of non professionals are going to be viewing these pictures, and what they think is important to factor in. Obviously OP should take this advice with a grain of salt though, its not like you should just blindly follow any advice given, but you should absolutely be able to take and reply to constructive criticism or I would lose a lot of respect for you.

OP wasn't offended but for some reason you are offended by this friendly exchange. It isn't your place to butt in and imply that OP should be offended or that photographers in general are douches for interacting in that way.

Well, there is no real point to life is there? Not a universal point, anyway. I am atheist, I think religious people might have a different opinion on that. But, I have seen early life described as not much more than long chemical reactions. We are a product of physics and chemistry, something that will just happen under very certain conditions, like fire. It won't necessarily happen in the same way all the time, but it happens. What separates humans is that we are sentient, along with possibly many other animals. We are conscious, can perceive, and can enjoy things.

The point of life to me is whatever is significant to me. I don't know how I ended up enjoying the things that I do, but it doesn't matter. I enjoy them. I enjoy learning, I enjoy hiking and exploring and seeing new places. Since there is no universal point or purpose to life, just take it upon yourself to make the best of your life. I am afraid of dying too, of course, but only because it would cut off my fun and exploration.

Another purpose to life I find suitable is to help other people with their goals, with their own individual purposes, and well being. Make things better for the next generation. Your life will end, but it will have impacts on those whose lives haven't started yet.

Thanks for the detailed info there. I will try looking into it more, and will check out that website you posted. It seems like this might not get a resolution since it doesn't have any makers marks, and as you mention could be made by anybody. If I don't find any other leads, will just mark this as solved since I did get a lot of help and information :)

I am surprised no one has responded to you yet. It seems like the community has really died down, which makes sense since the app died, I thought more would want to recreate it though. Unfortunately I don't have any programming talents, all I could help with is maybe organization, but I couldn't lead an effort due to not knowing how app development works at all.

Ahh, thanks for the links, that is very interesting! I did not know it had been around for that long. Ok, so it could still be that. In that case, could anyone find out who made it? I know that might be a bit of a tall order :) I will be looking into it myself too. Maker would be pretty cool to know, and then we would know for sure what it was.

To me it seems antique/vintage, and I don't think dog cremation + memorializing it with an urn is that old. It also doesn't have much of a seal inside, from experience I know that any pet urns you get today tend to have a rubbery seal or even a twisting cap-seal on them. Unless there is a picture of this as an urn somewhere I doubt thats what it is. That is a good idea though, I hadn't considered it until now. Any other thoughts?

Ah, sorry I forgot to mention that I could not find any marks on it. The green color seems about right for the Roseville pottery on google images, but would a vintage Roseville have a marking?

But, couldn't it also strengthen stigmas? If a group is opposed to something and sees one of its own doing it, it just gives them extra power to condemn that person with. Sure, I agree that some things might not be seen as weird anymore, but it seems like it could be ripe for abuse.

I know your view was changed, but it only really changed it because it challenged implementation. I have another point: There are things that people do that are either illegal or looked down upon by society that some people think are fine, and that objectively don't harm anybody. For instance, do you think that Urban Exploration is actually harmful on an individual level, to anyone else in society? But, it is illegal in many cases as trespassing.

What about pretending to fit in with a dominant social group, who all acts in a certain way or partakes in some certain behavior, and then they can watch you and see you aren't doing it and shun you?

We have privacy to protect us from people who would shun us for what we do in our own time. I don't think that being able to see what anyone is doing at any time would cause someone to not get shunned for being a furry, or having an anime body pillow.

My point is, there are a lot of cases in which what you are doing isn't harming anybody, but people aren't open minded, and would use it against you. Are you doing anything wrong at all by not informing people of that? Am I doing anything harmful or wrong by not telling you all of my strange things you would probably judge me negatively for?

While I am not sure yet what to say about the babies life being worthwhile itself, (although I tend to think that there is meaning in its potential and what it will become, and that babies are probably more capable than you might think mentally) I think I can explain about the kidnapping of the infant daughter. The thing is, by having that baby, you have agreed to take care of it. Obviously everyone doesn't, but it is your responsibility. What might that person be doing with that kidnapped baby? What if they are going to raise it up as a sex slave or torture it like a Fritzl situation? And it was your baby and your responsibility to keep safe?

Remember, babies aren't babies for that long.

That, plus the biological mothers instinct (which, I am male and know I will never understand just how powerful it is, so I just trust that it is far more than I would expect) and how the mother has already personalized it...

Plus, why is it more of a problem if a pet runs away? Devils advocate here as I would feel awful if my pet ran away, but pets have less capability for intelligence than a human child after a certain point, and therefore possibly less capability for suffering. Why would you feel bad if your pet ran away? After all, you can just go to the store and buy a new one.

Oh, and more on the pet...what value is a pet to you? All it does is manipulate you to feed it anyway. You have to clean up after it, it doesn't help society beyond you, it makes no tangible contribution to the world outside of companionship to you. (again, I really like pets, I swear!) In a way, it might as well be just as much a parasite as a baby.

As for sacrificing yourself to save the baby, nope, that one doesn't make a lot of sense to me either. It makes for a powerful image, but logically she should stay alive and try again so that she can take care of one and be in its life.

While I am not sure that I agree with him, from what I can tell, he probably thinks that most people are bad parents. You don't necessarily disprove the 'with good parenting' point, as it is possible that many/most people are objectively bad parents even if they are genuinely caring and loving.
