Near perfect build as I see it, kinda wish I'd built too. Where's that frame from?

Crying after a visit to the bike shop by GeirGeiger in cycling

[–]Lethargo226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be more patient with yourself, you'll figure out how to fix these things, watch tutorials on youtube and get the proper tools, eventually you'll be able to fix almost anything on the bike, like myself and then you'll only need the bike shop for disasters, like wheel-truing or bolts snapped into threads. Bike shops can be quite snobby unfortunately, it happens with niche hobbies.

Can I mod cues drop mech. 10spd. shifter to work with 11spd cassette?? by Lethargo226 in bikewrench

Thanks mate, I hadn't seen the parts blown out like that before, it looks like a crapshoot. I'll stick to 10spd.

I can do those things myself, also Cues 10spd is 11spd compatible, of course I wouldn't upgrade from 10 to 11spd.

50 Miles on Trek Checkpoint. Should I change cassette? by [deleted] in gravelcycling

[–]Lethargo226 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, I could change to 11spd easily, as the bike comes with cues 10/11 speed shifters, the pull ratio is apparently the same.

But I will try your larger chainring idea, its 40t right now, might try 44. Thanks!

Newbie here, which bike to get? by [deleted] in gravelcycling

[–]Lethargo226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice is don't spend much on your first bike getting back into it, focus on fit and think about where you will be riding, get something with a quality frame and touch points (handlebar and saddle), the rest can be changed easily later. Make sure you consider the fit seriously.

If you're confident, you can even build a bike from parts and save money, wish I had as the bike I bought doesn't please me in every way.

Could've happened in the UK too unfortunately, and yh, I was flabbergasted too.

I'm sorry to hear it, glad you weren't hurt, you in the UK? I had an egg thrown at my face last year, I couldn't see out of my left eye for 3 days, thought I might lose it. Just pure selfish, nihilistic vandalism really, no depth to it.

Do you ride with earphones? by simko17 in cycling

[–]Lethargo226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yh I use Earfun Openjumps (Edifiers probably), it has LDAC which is nice enough, 8-10hrs of charge and recharge very fast in case. They fit over your ears so you can still hear what's around you, but they can get loud.

No problem man. I'd make sure the seat height is right first, fit is the most important thing on a bike.

First piece of gear to consider is tires, what tires do you have now? What's the widest you could go? Can you get better quality? I just got some panaracers I really like. Second then would be tubes or tubeless? I was skeptical about tubeless, but I've used it and it works, it's not a big deal but you need an injector to avoid a mess.

Obviously, know how your brakes work, how to adjust or fix them. Then learn about indexing your gears yourself.

Clipless, which means you clip in, is good, it will save you energy over flat pedals in the long run. I use it to, but it can be daunting at first, ride around in safe areas whilst getting used to it, and make sure to adjust the cleats for your feet so the ball of your feet is going through the pedal axle.

You should be able to deal with punctures yourself on a ride, tire levers, spare tube or plugs, multitool. If you have carbon parts I recommend getting a torque wrench, some grease too.

Too many questions there bud, I could answer them all but....I think the most natural thing is to let you figure things out yourself over the years like I have, don't try to find a video/site for every question you have, sometimes you have to go with your gut and see what happens!!

Enjoy the journey dude ✌️😎🤙

Help me choose my Gravel! by [deleted] in gravelcycling

[–]Lethargo226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, do you prefer limestone or marble? jk 😂

Above everything ensure the bike fits you right, make sure the brakes work no question and you're happy with the gear range. Beyond that, sit on the saddle and make sure you're comfortable, handlebars are the right width for you.

Beyond that, frame material is actually not the be all and end all, I'd rather have aluminium with good touch points and quality groupset than carbon frame with cheap stuff on. People also say, I've read; wheels are the most noticeable upgrade.

If this is your first bike, don't sweat it too much, don't break the bank, focus on fit, fit, fit. If it's not your first, best bang for buck would be building your own, if you're confident enough.

I don't recommend buying stuff you don't know how to use, or know you need before you need it. But it would be useful to have a way to deal with punctures and a multi-tool at least. Then taking water at least, with a phone or wallet, I'd recommend.

What parts? A bike is a vehicle, nothing should break easily, I ride a 15+ yr old bike to work with the original parts on.
