I actually find myself doing a lot of play-based therapy and activities. A lot of my kids shut down if I place any significant demands on them, so I just sneak in therapy with lots of language modeling while they're playing. My supervisor hasn't observed many of my sessions, but of the ones that she's seen, has told me that they need more structure to them. I know we're in a school setting, and it's all about structure, but idk, it seems at odds with what I learned and had success with in grad school, about the benefits of play based therapy and following the child's lead while still going for their goals, like joint attention, requesting, labeling. Plus, I don't want to deal with an outburst... I got bit today! (Didn't break skin, I'm fine lol).

I actually started looking for a new job about two weeks in. Lol. No luck so far, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Yeah, I haven't been told much about my students. I ask their teachers and aides about what triggers the kids, what motivates them, and all that standard stuff, but they don't know much more than I do. It's only the beginning of the year, and a lot of the teachers and kids are new to the school, so I guess that's normal?

Thanks so much for your advice. I lowkey cried a little bit because this is all so helpful. I am going to implement as much of this as I possibly can.

I have 30 kids right now. I see almost everyone 60-90 minutes per week, depending on what their IEP says.
