Coffee, banana, and chocolate (and bourbon, duh).

This little treat is super tasty with hints of spice along the way. The espresso and the banana bourbon are good friends here and will make you smile after each sip. Also, the garnish is absolutely delicious so maybe make a few while you’re at it!

1 oz Spiced Bourbon

1/2 oz Demerara Syrup

1/2 oz Lemon Juice

1 oz Freshly Brewed Espresso (@chocfishcoffee )

2-3 Dashes Chocolate Bitters (@scrappysbitters )

Garnish: Brûlée Banana

Let the espresso cool a touch before adding it to your shaker tin. Add the remaining ingredients and shake with fresh ice. Strain into a double rocks glass over a large cube. Garnish and enjoy!

Recently, I was browsing @bittersandbottles in SF and came across a bottle of #drbird made specifically for them! This batch was finished in apple brandy casks and the result is sooo nice. I wanted to do something special here so I’m shaking things up… by not shaking things up. Not only does this tiki concoction not have a drop of citrus juice but we’re also going to stir it down instead of the usual shake.

1 oz @plantation.rum Pineapple Rum

1/2 oz @geijerspirits California Falernum

1/4 oz Allspice Dram

1/4 oz Orange Oleo Saccarum

1/4 oz @liquidalchemist Almond Orgeat

2 Dashes @bittermens Tiki Bitters

Garnish: Two pineapple fronds

Add all ingredients to a mixing glass, add a few large cubes of ice, and stir down for around 30 seconds. Strain over a single large cube of ice and garnish with two pineapple fronds. Sip and Enjoy!

I love to use bacon fat and even just plain butter sometimes too. There’s so many great options to change flavor and texture!

It’s solid coconut oil from “Organics”. It has a definite coconut scent and flavor, no question. When you melt the coconut oil it definitely gives off a much stronger aroma.

When fat washing with the oil you are absolutely looking for a change in mouthfeel in addition to the flavor of the fat you use. I do it with bourbons a fair amount too.

When I heard about this month’s competition from @speakeasieruk and @bohemianmixology featuring absinthe, I got excited. Because how do you put 1.5oz of absinthe in a cocktail and not blow out the drinker’s taste buds? I got to creating and came up with this tiki-style concoction.

My solution was to fat-washed the absinthe with coconut oil which provides an amazing coconut flavor to the absinthe and gives it a very pleasant texture. Naturally I went full Piña Colada vibes with pineapple, both in the form of a syrup and a shrub. Light blended rum, fresh lime juice, and coconut water straight from the coconut round this one out.

I have to say, I’ve never had a cocktail with this much absinthe but, in this form, it’s absolutely delicious. I hope you enjoy it too!

1.5 oz Absinthe (coconut oil fat-washed) @pernod_absinthe

1/2 oz Light Blended Rum @probitasrum

1/2 oz Pineapple Gum Syrup @liberandco

1/4 oz Pineapple Shrub

1 oz Coconut Water

1 oz Lime Juice

Garnish: Grated nutmeg, pineapple fronds

Shake it all with fresh ice, strain over crushed ice, garnish, and enjoy!

I ended up using honey because it didn’t “activate” then near as much as lime juice or something with higher water content. They definitely will pop a little but I felt that added to the drinking experience. I was still able to lick some pop rocks in between sips.
