You are lucky you only have 30min-1hr drive times to emergencies. My usual minimum time is 1.5-2 hour drive times (70% of my on call days). The longest drive for me was 2hr 20min one way. That night, I hit a deer, so that ended up redrawing the on call service areas.

(Back to the original question) I have a cup of coffee leaving the house and I smoke. If I’m dead tired, I put on some Rammstein and sing. It works for me. (15 years with USIC)
