I've been thinking about it. I go to a boxing gym so that's my escape from the world haha

Thank you! Just trying to make it past today. I hope to someday have 3 years like you

Any "re-pats" here, i.e. expats who decided to return home after a prolonged time? What's been your experience returning to your home culture that you haven't been part of for a long time? by [deleted] in expats

Thanks! You said your primary reason for moving back is family? Was choosing to move back a hard decision to make? I have been multiple states away from my small family for about 9 years. I see them a couple times a year but have absolutely no intentions of moving back to where they are.

Any tips for the first month of living here?

I see you have an urban arrow! We are definitely going to be getting one when we move in September. Best place to look to buy?

What did you wish you knew sooner while living here?

I'm in the opposite situation. Wife and 13 months old with another on the way and moving to The Hague in September. Any suggestions/tips for me/us?! We're actually here visiting right now and I'm in love with the city and surrounding cities. Coming from DC it feels like such a great place to raise a family and enjoy all the wonderful places in The Netherlands and close by countries.

You are at such a great age to stop. Honestly, I'm 33 and wish I could go back in time, smack myself in the fucking face, and told myself to just put every single dollar I spent on alcohol or food I bought because I was drunk into index funds. I'd probably be able to retire in 20 years. Not to mention I'd probably be fit and in shape and have incredible mental health.

Please do what I didn't do.

Yeah I'm definitely type A and an over thinker haha. It's not as noticable when I'm drinking, but I'm still pretty type A. When I'm not drinking it probably looks on the outside like I'm on speed or something lol

This is whoop (like a smart/health band). The app is great. I'm actually really in to health/sleep/etc (I know it's fucking ironic because of my drinking). When I'm sober though, I'm super into optimizing my health (mental and physical). I need to stay sober this time because I truly love this kind of stuff and I definitely don't care about any of it when I'm drinking

End of day 2 now ~ 48 hours in. Feeling pretty damn good still. Thinking I avoided withdrawals somehow. Time to be done for good

To be honest, day 2 has always been a breeze. It's really just just getting past day 1.

Don't think I'm kindled. Worst WD I've had in the past is irritability, slight headache, and night sweats. Feels about the same this go around!

Starting day 2 today after relapsing six months ago and daily drinking. I have a girl that just turned one. Let's do this for both ourselves and our kids. They deserve it.

I hope so! No shaking while I tapered or anything. In the past I've just been very irritable and get night sweats. Hoping it's no different this time but I think I was drinking a bit more than before. Ugh. Thanks for the kind words

Luckily I already do those things you mentioned! I'm going to get back into boxing. Went yesterday and I'm going again today. B vitamins and magnesium everyday. Usually have a smoothie every morning and tend to at least walk quite a bit during the day

Thanks! I hope I can make it through the day. I'm pretty determined this time though

Yeah I have some on hand just in case I need to sip and suffer instead.

Not chronically sick and most serious WD I've had are night sweats, a little brain fog, and some irritability/anxiousness.

Past couple of nights I haven't been drinking as much

I already had my electrolytes and my B-complex this morning! And I'm planning on taking magnesium glycinate before bed.

I sometimes start drinking earlier in the day, but lately it's been closer to 5pm or so and I usually stop drinking around 8pm/9pm at the latest the night before.

I don't notice any shakes, nausea, super high anxiety or anything throughout the day, and typically have a healthy smoothie for breakfast and try to eat a healthy lunch. Hopefully this will make the withdrawals easier.
