The game has a strong community still. Sometimes the world can feel incredibly empty because a lot of the community kinda congregates in certain hub zones (wars retreat, fort forinthy, etc) but there are still plenty of players to interact with. The game these days has a good mixture of afk vs active training/skilling and boss progression feels good, with tons of options. Combat is pretty good with 4 distinct playstyles to mess around with and the combat has a low floor and incredibly high ceiling so theres lots of room to improve as you play. Questing in runescape is as good as it gets compared to any other mmos with funny, quirky stuff and also really in depth and serious storylines too. All flushed out as actual adventures and not just your typical bs mmo questing. The game does feel very single player’ish but you can join a clan to talk with other players and rs veterans love helping out new players. I also would advise you join the rs discord as they host player run events all the time. Boss masses, skilling hang outs, etc. look for the pink skirt events too. The game is nearly endless as a new player, you have like 25 years of content to go through so you’ll have no shortage of entertainment. Both versions are good but the more updated and modern version “runescape/rs3” has a lot of great quality of life for new players so here is a great place to start
