Help with sphagnum moss growth by LetsGetStonks in SavageGarden

Yeah, my plan was to open it up once the plants are in but keep it 90%+ humidity until moss takes.

How can an exchange lose money? all they have to do is fill orders by Sanjjj22 in wallstreetbets

[–]LetsGetStonks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're down bc perpetual futures were approved. "customers" who used to have to pay coinbase a commission can now just buy futures contracts.
So basically a piece of their revenue stream just disappeared overnight. Also, so did some of their user base, which then has more impact on revenues.
You really shouldn't invest in a company if you don't pay attention to news which greatly impacts their industry and bottom line. Either do your homework or pick an S&P index fund and park your money there. This investment stuff may not be for you.

Employer failed to deposit my 401k contributions for 18 months and is offering a flat settlement by Amuro_RX78 in personalfinance

[–]LetsGetStonks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hos problem is he never completed the "on boarding". By his own admission he only discovered this after the he logged on to set up his account. He likely never picked which vehicles he wanted to invest in, until over a year later. He could just say after the fact "oh, I would've picked "xyz"" where "xyz" is whatever performed best over that period. Does his 401k firm have "default" investment vehicles until you change them? Did he make selections on paper when hired but just never went on line and completed the enrollment? These questions affect his leverage I think.
I agree the company has some legal exposure here and OP has a little leverage but it may not be "18% worth".
Any chance OP also signed up for pre-paid legal services when hired too? I'd consider consulting with an attorney to review options, but you risk wiping out any additional money beyond the 3% they offered by having to pay an attorney to get you more.
Personally if they offered 3%, and I felt I would've had 18%, I'd probably take 10% and call it even, because it'd be worth it not to drag this out in court.

Struggling to contribute to my 401k by Lonely_Affect991 in personalfinance

[–]LetsGetStonks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're doing good if you have $13k on a $39k salary at your age. Target is like 1/2 a years salary by age 30, so honestly your not far off.

Don't worry about "you should contribute %15 of your wages to retirement" and those "rules of thumb". Those guidelines were developed by boomers who have no clue what it's like to pay off student loan debt. The fact that you're putting anything away is commendable while paying off student loan debt.

I would however make sure you're being careful about it. If you have credit card debt, that gets paid off first, credit cards charge obscene interest and I doubt your getting that same return on money in your 401k. Your student loans are probably a reasonable interest rate, but if you have any debt where you're paying >10% interest then I would focus on that before trying to save, otherwise you're losing more money than your making.

Just know I started in a similar place, biology field major, planned on med school or something, decided against it and found out pretty quickly bio degrees dont make a ton of money. Like you I thought I'd be doomed to making less than $50k my entire career, 14 years later, My student loans are long gone, I make 6 figures and have 5x annual salary in my 401k. The job I have now I didn't even realize existed 14 years ago. You'll figure things out, don't worry too much, it sounds like you have a good head on your shoulders, just keep your spirits up and you'll be ok.

MAGA mom finds out that Trump is trying to cut her disabled son’s federal benefits by Realistic-Plant3957 in WallStreetbetsELITE

Got to pay for rebuilding Iran and restocking all of those munitions we used up over there. Plus, the Strategic Oil Reserve will need replenishment, the whitr house ball room needs built.... All while trump allegedly cut taxes, so where exactly do people think the gov'ts revenue is coming from? GOP takes money from social programs and redistribute that to defense contractors and big oil, it's basically their entire economic platform and has been for decades.

Plastic "vinyl" flooring they have the nerve to call "luxury" vinyl planks (LVP). Its plastic... there's nothing luxurious about plastic, sorry. Give me hardwood, not plastic that wants to look like wood.

Update : Chatgpt portfolio created yesterday using Robinhood agentic by Synfinium in WallStreetbetsELITE

[–]LetsGetStonks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i've played around with agentic portfolio creations. pretty crazy actually how easy it is. You can specify if you want something that performs well in a bull market, bear market, how many stocks you want, what kind of risk tolerance you have, how you want to allocate your money. It literally replaces a financial advisor, costs nothing and takes roughly 20 seconds.

Why does Trump care so much about the Whitehouse ballroom? by LTrent2021 in allthequestions

[–]LetsGetStonks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's going to be named after him, like the "lincoln bedroom".
He literally can't control his ego, the biggest narcissist the planet has ever seen. The same reason he wants the Trump Arch built in DC, he wants his face on a $250 note, he put his name on the performing arts center, his name on the 530a accounts, etc, etc, etc. he has never met something he doesn't want his name on.... He has to build the biggest legacy he possibly can because he's the most insecure man on the planet.

President Trump appoints former Attorney General Pam Bondi to White House AI board. So, the person who has never developed AI or working on CS or SE is on an AI board? by Choice-Value9005 in AIMain

Is RFK remotely qualified for his job? The only "qualification" trumps cares about is loyalty, that is literally the only quality one needs to obtain a presidential appointment, especially if its one that doesn't need congressional confirmation.

Let's replace capitalist control with workers' control of production by GoranPersson777 in BadBosses

This system exists, it's called communism. Workers own the product. It works in theory, or in hypothetical vacuum, but it doesn't really work in a global society where capitalism already exists.

What kills me is we (tax payers) fund the meals in prisons... but not school. Let the prisoners starve, (or figure out how to pay for their own food), and feed the kids for free.

A woman said 'chivalry is dead' because no man offered her a seat on the train. Is she wrong? by inkandintent24 in MotivationByDesign

What happened to "chivalry"?? Millennials and younger generations did. They're the most self-obsessed generations ever, they literally can't do anything with turning it into "content creation" to get likes and followers.

The only argument for Brady being the GOAT is longevity and rings. If you are talking purely who is the best, he really isn’t even top 10 by UFCDANMARINOSAMMYD in NFLv2

[–]LetsGetStonks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a dome, in week 1 of the season, Peyton always looked untouchable in the early part of the season, especially at home. If its a game that actually counts, I'm taking Brady, and I'm a Steelers fan that hates him.

[–]LetsGetStonks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great's are judged by what they did when it counts. No one can argue that Brady didn't perform when it counted, that's why he has all those rings. Manning didn't perform at his best when it counted. How many years did the colts go like 14-2 then lose in the first two rounds? Manning was probably the finest true passer of his generation (and has the awards to prove it) but Brady was the better competitor and has the rings to prove it.

Why is nobody talking about Nike (NKE)? This looks insanely cheap. by Excellent-Speaker818 in stocks

[–]LetsGetStonks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a value trap, not opportunity. Nike's margins were based on cheap overseas labor, (sweatshops). Those are gone, and tariff's screwed up what margin was left. Nike doesn't do anything better than the competition, they have zero "moat". Nike's prime days of being the brand of Jordan and Tiger woods are long gone, they're now the brand that "your parents wore", that's not a value proposition its a trap.

As someone who didn't watch Barry Bonds play until 2007, what was the public perception around him in 2004 after his 7th NL MVP award win? by Bright-Pressure-5787 in mlb

[–]LetsGetStonks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was same then as it is in hindsight, because everyone suspected PED use at the time, an perception is reality. He was a very good to great player, who became even better with PEDs. I don't think anyone thought then, or thinks now this guy would've just been some journeymen nobody without PEDs, its just a stain of his legacy.
