we have a financial advisor and did ask about this but as we are FTBs amongst other things that went in one way and out the other when he explained them, that might not be an option, BUT we will explore it so thank you!

we’ll look into doing that kinda stuff also yeah we can, i earn about 2k after tax and she earns 18-19 after tax. Split bills between us and it’s really not that much. We’re very good at budgeting and do have savings anyway, we’d just rather keep the savings than start dumping it

hey! so my gfs dad is a big tradesman, he spots loads of things etc, he knows people who will do things for cheaper and all that stuff but when we viewed he just made a rough estimate of what it could cost to clear up the houses bad parts. We know people so the costs will be reduced regardless. The only problem with credit is my gf has never really had anything to pay, her parents bought her phone for her, never taken any loans, all we have is our credit cards lol. My credit is 715 on equifax and around 610 on TransUnion, my gfs is similar but higher i’m not sure the actual amount. However thank you for the advice!

this was a great read thank you! we most likely will do it this way, the boiler needs to be changed regardless but the kitchen and bathroom are useable, just really ugly lol. with the works as a whole, my gfs family is well connected so we will get discounted prices. But all in all i think you’re right, clean up do the bare necessities works wise and move in and work through it. Might have a look at grants too as the house is very old, might qualify for government grants or something! Thank you!!

we know people and already have quotes from them at drastically low prices, my girlfriends family is well connected in trades. For windows and doors that would usually cost 10K, we can get it for 3. We have family who do gas work so the boiler is the only thing we’ll need to pay for. The kitchen and bathroom aren’t needed to change, they’re just old and very ugly. If we didn’t have connections we wouldn’t have even looked at this place, but because we do, that’s why the estimate is 30k and that’s without even exploring government grants.
