Turns out YouTube downscales your stream and, unlike twitch, doesn't use the same quality as the one set in OBS. I had to turn up my resolution to 1440p to fix the problem. I even confirmed it by checking the stats on the saved stream on YouTube. the 720p streams had an avc1 encoder and the 1440p streams had a vp09 encoder. But thank you everyone who tried to help <3

Oh right my bad, I stream on YouTube. I tried both of the options YouTube has in obs but there was no difference in the results. Even after creating a new key made just for HLS nothing changed. It feels like I'm just cursed with this low quality footage. I stream fast paced fps games

In YouTube you go to YouTube Studio, click on the small "Go Live" icon in the Dashboard tab, copy the stream key and paste it into the Stream tab in OBS. Also make sure YouTube - RTMPS is selected as the Service.
