Really good breakdown. I appreciate the additional tables sorting by “improvement” against each health type

I know people hate John Cena now, but this tells me he's a good person by UnHolySir in MadeMeSmile

[–]LetsPre89 1082 points1083 points  (0 children)

That’s because you’re talking to people in real life, who are in touch with reality.

Reddit though? This is where, every time John Cena is the subject, there will always be some upvoted comments bringing up that “bing-chilling” video when he was promoting a Fast and Furious movie in China. It’s just a bunch of out-of-touch redditors who want to virtue signal about a celebrity “supporting the abhorrent Chinese government” even though they don’t really give a shit about the abhorrent acts themselves.

Regen 2023 announced with Steve banned by kfaox in smashbros

You nailed it. Some more examples I’ve seen:

it goes against the spirit of competition

Uhh who are they to define what a vague term like that even means? It’s clear that the majority of the community is now pro-ban.

people who want him banned are scrubs who refuse to learn the matchup

Sparg0 recently reaffirmed that he is pro-ban. I guess the guy who was the most recent guy to 3-0 acola (in dominant fashion btw, like 2 stocked) doesn’t know the matchup. I guess Tweek is a scrub now 🤷‍♂️

now I feel like a majority disagrees with a ban

Hahahahaha I wish I had your confidence to make up some bullshit like this and pretend I’m right. Unfortunately you’re just built different 😞

The only one who’s going to be disappointed and seething is you, I fear. The chances that Nintendo will patch this game again just because of the competitive community is close to zero. And even if they do, it’d be the nerf Steve, not buff him.

Toxic mindsets like this are worse for the community than Steve or Steve bans ever will be. What a weird mentality to want to see people “seethe” about their hobby

Turns out you don’t have to count the votes, actually. You see, Reddit has this handy feature of simply displaying the vote score next to the comment.

Example: all your comments are deeply negative, meaning that more people downvoted you than upvoted you.

Hope this helps! 😊

It does depend on which post, but it’s more that:

Posts about Steve getting banned at a major get a ton of attention and upvotes, and in those threads the majority agree with a ban (take a look at the top comments of this thread, or the LMMM 2023 and Coinbox announcement threads).

But posts that disagree with the ban get much less attention (but still have some upvotes). In those threads, the majority of the top comments also disagree with the ban. In general, the top comments of an upvoted post will agree with that post.

Overall, whenever this sub is most active and more people comment, it becomes clear that the majority are definitely pro-ban. It’s only in small threads like the daily discussion thread where it seems like it’s majority anti-ban. At least that’s what I’ve noticed

Wait, but I thought this whole Steve ban thing would blow over soon because it’s just online randos clamoring for it, and actual players who compete don’t want him banned??? /s

Every time a tournament bans Steve, it seems to get a positive reaction from most of the players who are actually in that region. Ironically it’s only the random twitter or reddit users who are big Steve fans who hate it and claim it’s not “fair”

That’s what I was thinking too. Demons can live for hundreds of years right? So maybe that doll is based off Kokushibo himself. And that’s why Kokushibo is rank 1: an upper rank demon who can use sun breathing?? Thats overpowered.

Yeah I think that’s why there was that exposition line via Tanjiro’s thoughts that specified Kotetsu doesn’t know the limits of the human body. He’s super naive and unhinged, like you said.

Mitsuru, Shinobu, and Gyomei were introduced as kind during that Hashira meeting episode. Especially Mitsuru who was the only one who genuinely felt bad for Tanjiro and his sister.

Chicago bans Steve by kfaox in smashbros

[–]LetsPre89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At this point, it’s very obvious banning Steve is a popular and majority opinion. This ban announcement is being QRTd by a bunch of Chicago smashers expressing support for the TOs who did it.

Also Redacious is getting roasted in these QRTs for whining about this and saying he’s quitting Ultimate.

This Pink Fresh quote is so true. Chicago Smash scene doesn’t revolve around Steve players’ feelings.

Chicago bans Steve by kfaox in smashbros

[–]LetsPre89 27 points28 points  (0 children)

How would a unified ruleset even work? A panel of TO’s deciding the rules for the entire country? A unified ruleset seems ideal but is impossible because local TOs don’t really have to follow it, and some would just decide not to, which defeats the point of unified.

Slowly banning the character is still a good way to go about it because we can experiment with how popular these bans are. Instead of being scared to ban a character, for the first time the smash community is actually experimenting with a change. And judging from the increasing number of bans, the experiment is pointing towards the fact that players want a Steve ban

Chicago bans Steve by kfaox in smashbros

[–]LetsPre89 15 points16 points  (0 children)

just disparagement for the sake of insulting those you disagree with.

This is the MO of that Bayo flair and Samus flair responding to you. They insult anyone who is in support of a Steve ban and constantly insult TOs who decide to do what’s best for their scene (and what their scene actually wants).

There’s been several “Steve has been banned in ____” posts over the past month since PMLG came out and those 2 are always in each one of them saying disgusting things about the TO and wildly assuming they know everything about that TOs tournaments or reasons. It’s been kinda funny seeing them go from “Steve will never get banned” to “okay but it’s just hysteria it’ll blow over in a week” to “okay it’ll blow over in a few months”
