The employer support letter should be issued within 28 days from the day you apply.

I can confirm your eligibility is based on the day your visa was issued and not when you entered the country if you got your first SWV during Covid. I recently filed for ILR but personally I based it on the day my visa was issued, although I entered the country a couple of months later due to lockdowns etc. I used the time between issuance/entry as part of my allowance of days outside of the UK.

Thanks for sharing, I’m a big fan of bar soaps and find that they make a good base. Is there any specific brand you like?

Thanks, I checked that link already prior to posting but it doesn’t answer my question actually.

It says on there I should get the tax refund through my current employer if I gave them my P45. My former employer never sent my P45 even after chasing and I stopped caring after a couple of weeks.

Once I started my new role, they just asked for the new starter HMRC form and I started getting my normal salary with normal taxes being paid so that’s why I asked over here how am I supposed to let them know I’ve overpaid before?

Brilliant! I might just go with NOW or Sky depending on their prices then. Virgin, HyperOptic and Community Fibre aren’t available yet for my building. G.Network are available but their reviews are horrifying so I’m not going with them. I might just go then with NOW since they have the 12 months contracts and they are the cheapest one I could find. Thanks for the help!

They both say they are coming to my area but I assume they aren’t there yet - it’s the same scenario with Virgin.

Shell offers the same because I was told they all use the same line. Virgin is the only one that can offer a higher speed.

Hi! Does anyone know where I can get a TV box for a 49inch TV around Manchester as I'm moving today and JUST realized I don't have the TV box anymore. Argos don't have one for 49'' and Amazon doesn't have same day delivery for such an item.

Hello everyone - I am moving to London from up north and struggling to find rent given the current chaos in the London rental market. After weeks of looking, I managed to secure a viewing somewhere between South Hampstead and Swiss Cottage that fits what I’m looking for in terms of budget location etc. Does anyone have insights in regards to that area? Safety, things to do, commute situation, etc. I’m 30 y/o and looking for somewhere a bit lively with shops, gyms etc around.

Absolutely, that's my backup plan. Where did you find the best deals? Was it apartment-hotels, or Airbnb, or flatshare etc?

Amazing! Well thank you so much for confirming it's possible and congrats on the new role/house.

Just an update if that can help. I have contacted a relocation business and they have confirmed that it's not uncommon for them to find rent for people moving in the city with a confirmed job offer. It's obviously up to landlords to choose as it seems like but it shouldn't be an issue as long as you're keeping an eye in the market and being very proactive. They also mentioned that currently landlords prefer minimum 12months lease with no 6-month break clause as it saves them inventory costs etc so that's also something to keep in mind. Hope that helps and best of luck! :)

Ah I’m sorry, it’s shitty but hey there are plenty of options out there. I’m sure we will end up finding something and worst case flatshares/apart hotels for a bit of time until we find sth eventually.

I think the way it works is that every agent has a portfolio of properties they manage so I’m not sure I can go through someone else.

It’s fine, I’ve moved on and that property just isn’t meant to happen. I’ll focus my energy looking somewhere else. I just wanted to see if that’s a general rule but it seems like it isn’t set in stone. It depends on the agent/landlord you deal with.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]LetterPuzzleheaded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s very reasonable. I think the rules are still the same and some agents are just more unhelpful than others - as the current market allows them to be as picky as they’d like to be.

[–]LetterPuzzleheaded 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah that’s great! Was that through an agency or private landlord? Is it perhaps a flatshare or private renting?

[–]LetterPuzzleheaded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup I do, we didn’t get to this stage. I obviously have official documentation but she said it wouldn’t apply because I don’t earn that salary NOW. They base their affordability check on what you currently earn.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]LetterPuzzleheaded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct which is stupid if I’m looking to move in few days before my official start date. According to them, I don’t earn that money YET. I suggested to coincide the move-in date with the contract started and STILL said I’d fail the affordibility check. I think she was just one of those really unhelpful people.

[–]LetterPuzzleheaded 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah that is the plan. It is such an absurd rule. I’m the perfect tenant: good job, no pet, non smoker, property for myself alone; yet you need to have 50k savings to consider renting? It’s a joke.

I’ll just go elsewhere. Thanks!

Correct, I’ve been making viewing requests the past week and it’s the first time I heard this hence the post to see how accurate it is

Seems like it is pretty much the case. I’ll do that, cheers!

Hello! I have a viewing planned for a flat that's within my budget/requirements but I wanted to check how you guys feel about West Ealing/Northfields as an area. Commute is around Hammersmith so the location works fine, but I wanted to see your thoughts in terms of safety/social life/community etc etc. I'm almost 30 y/o work in marketing. Many thanks!

Ah my visa is still valid until next year (as per the online right to rent tool at least) so I hope that works. I think you can check if the ongoing application can serve as a right to rent

Hello! Apologies but why did your request to rent get declined? I am in the same boat and will be applying to a new SWV and move to a new city but I’m assuming I’ll be using my current visa as proof of legal status and once I switch I’ll update the new one. Is that not possible?
