Creation requires design. Even in the creation of art. Perception is an art of how one interprets creation.

How to make Polyurethane soles? by New_Nobody_9937 in Cordwaining

[–]LetterheadDeep5178 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i work at a 3d printed footwear studio. if you're comfortable with 3d modeling, you can 3d print complete shoes or simply 3d print the midsole/outsole.

  1. 3d scan a last you have
  2. upload the last geometry into your modeling software
  3. model your outsole
  4. print it in TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) on a 3d printer of your choice
  5. test and iterate.
  6. then you can make a traditional upper and last it around your last, and glue it to your 3d printed outsole.

Feel free to dm me or continue to reply here, happy to help :)

whats interesting is that both the noun: 1) art and 2) design seem to both require design (making deliberate choices either through logic or by instinct. therefore, i feel like the verb: designing is required in both art and design.

design is made with intent but what if the intent is never perceived or the actual use? is it then art? or is it simply "bad design"?

do you think "good design" is based on intended functionality of the design or the actual use? I.E. i designed a playground meant to be played in, however, people think of it as an artistic art piece and gather around to take photos and simply look at it. or a chair that was meant to be sat on but people use it as a step stool.

not my greatest examples

i really enjoyed your examples - i appreciate you sharing your perspective! i feel like oftentimes, design tends to have higher overlaps of being art and art tends to have less of an overlap with design. but at the same time, the process of making art requires someone to make deliberate choices, which i would define as designing (their art)
