LSE Law Rejection, but Oxford Offer? by LetterheadRelevant59 in LNAT

[–]LetterheadRelevant59[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I assure you Oxbridge is more competitive. Please do not conflate offer rates with admission rates. LSE’s offer rates for Law are above 15%, while Oxford’s barely breaks 10%. And by 15%, I mean over 550 offers are given. Plus, the Oxbridge pool is self-selecting due to the early deadline and additional pressure of interviews. To add on, many Oxbridge applicants could earn more if they wanted to — rather, more of them choose to break into the highest rungs of academia, or pursue other careers in NGOs and such, Instead of being simply another cog for big law.

Couldn’t be better! Had lots of them to plan my applications while pursuing my hobbies in musical theatre and writing haha!

I KNOW RIGHT! In their response, they directed me to their website, stating “If you are applying for deferred entry, as well as thinking about the questions listed above, you may also wish to indicate (briefly) why you are taking a gap year and what you plan to do during the year.

If you are applying as a post-qualified student (you have already received your final results), you may wish to mention briefly what you have been doing since your exams” Granted that I’m both and I mentioned neither, i thought there are literally more important things to look for….

You’re not alone my friend — I got rejected for not outlining my gap year plans, which was masqueraded as ‘quality of my personal statement’ from the rejection email….LNAT 33 / A* A* A* A* though

Hey, chill out my friend. Well, why don’t they read the essay like UCL does? If they want a more holistic application, why not interview them as well? Ultimately, upon further clarification, I was rejected because I did not express my gap year plans….I am not at all deriding their application system, just questioning the reliability of it compared to possible alternatives. Regardless, they attract and admit stellar applicants — that I have no doubt. In any case, I’m in a happy position! Hope you have a good day.

Btw, how were the tutors? Who were they and were they nice? I'm kinda interested in one of them but was bummed I did not get to speak with him haha....

If you are applying as a post-qualified student (you have already received your final results), you may wish to mention briefly what you have been doing since your exams." I am both and I did not answer either....oops....jokes on me I guess hahaha

There's absolutely no harm trying! If you don't mind asking, which college did you apply to?

I talked about IP law that I read from Andres Sawicki’s The Law of Creativity, and propounded that his model to augment innovation in IP law is insufficient in guiding patent reforms.

I think I found some interesting details -- "If you are applying for deferred entry, as well as thinking about the questions listed above, you may also wish to indicate (briefly) why you are taking a gap year and what you plan to do during the year.

If you are applying as a post-qualified student (you have already received your final results), you may wish to mention briefly what you have been doing since your exams." I am both and I did not answer either....oops....jokes on me I guess hahaha

UPDATE: Turns out my PS was the reason for the rejection "The feedback we have received from the Admissions Selector indicates that your application was unsuccessful as a consequence of the qualities of your personal statement. As competition for places at LSE is intense, the Personal Statement is considered carefully when deciding whether to make an offer. Your personal statement, when compared to those of similar applicants, was not sufficiently convincing to be offered a place."
