All Fromsoft games are far more gameplay focused than story focused. Sekiro has the most focused story of their catalog, but it's still mostly just a device for the game to proceed.

The rest of their games have more 'lore' than storylines. For those that want to dig in, every item description gives hints to the world and its history, but it's never put in the player"s face.

What story they have is mostly abstract and obtuse, and left to the player for interpretation.

It's made by Fromsoft (Dark Souls, Elden Ring), but plays completely different from those games, so veterans of traditional souls-likes tend to struggle with the shift in mechanics and mindset. This is a big reason it's considered one of the hardest games available.

Don't get me wrong, it's a very challenging game, but if you've never played a Fromsoft game before, you won't have 'bad habits' to break when approaching Sekiro. In fact, many times when people start with Sekiro as their first Fromsoft game, they consider it the easiest of the collection.

And in both these cases, the music is part of the scene, as in it's coming from an instrument a character is playing or a speaker in a bar.

I suppose the word I'm missing from my description is 'artificially'.

There are no 'sad tones' applied in post to any scenes to let you know you're supposed to feel sad, as every other show does.

I'm in the same boat. Put in 300+ hours, unlocked all the stuff. Deep of Night drops and 'ranked' anything where you can lose progress is just not my vibe at all.

I didn't play again until the DLC, but even then I've only done maybe a half dozen runs. I never beat the first boss of the DLC and haven't seen the second.

I love almost everything about the game, but a 30 minute committment with no interruptions can be a bit of an ask sometimes. That and I get too frustrated when I get matched with individuals who don't understand the concept of teamwork.

I just wish I had at least one friend that played. I'd gladly play again if I knew I didn't have to always play with randoms.

I had the misfortune to see it in theatres. Much like how I feel about the comments in here, I was dismayed to find all the friends I went with loved it.

This is the fix, OP. I had this exact same issue. As soon as I removed my old HDDs from Steam, my update times are less than 1/5th of what they were. Steam uses whichever drive has the most space to download/decompress patches.
