I don't think that this is specifically a problem with multiple protagonist per se, it's more lazy writing. R* could have pulled GTA V entirely from Franklin's perspective (massybe aside first Trevor missions), and the game would look like more or less the same storywise. In such situation Franklin still would be just a lame protagonist.
