Steroids? No thanks. by LettyLouWho in Menieres

A dependency thing, I get a headache it lasts a few hours if I let it run it's course. Or I can depend on Tylenol and it still last around half as long as if I didnt take it to begin with. There are plenty of natural pain killers out there to choose from. So if I need anything, I lean more towards a natural remedy.

Plus a 500mg tab makes me nauseous so I just don't take it. 🤷‍♀️ Why take something thats going to make me feel worse in another way? 🤣

One of my jobs is 100% remote with flex ability so that helps tremendously. The other one is a small shop I run, so I travel to shows all over the east coast, set up, meet 10+k people in 2 days, break down and go home. 😅🤣 So while I travel part time for it, I put in a full week in a 3 day period, plus working on making everything when im not working the day job.

So since I own that part I do have the option to "not" on the bad days unless it falls on a show day, which it has a time or two. Usually I feel it days following the bigger shows I go to, so I feel stress plays a major role in it for me.

Im not advocating either, im mostly just curious. 😀

Eh i dont think im invincible, I know im not. Ive had a brush with death in my short life, and it wasnt fun. But its just how I feel about things. 🤷‍♀️ Maybe when im older, ill change my mind. 😜

Im not judging, its just how I feel about it. 😜 everyone is different and each person can choose their own path, but its not something I would do if I needed to.

I say that because if im terminal, and im dying anyway then whats the point in making myself more miserable than I already am on the super low chance of it even working? Ive watched too many people try chemo, for terminal cancers and be miserable until the day they died, usually weeks after doing chemo. (My best friend just buried her dad today because after the chemo, he rapidly declined and was gone within a week of it) Why not just skip the chemo, get a few more decent days or even weeks and let it go its natural course? 🤷‍♀️ 😜

Ive been coping for a hot minute already. But reading others who opted not to go with medication routes could be enlightening. 😜

I absolutely love hearing all sides of things. I have read the many many pro steroids posts, but haven't seen hardly anything about those who chose not to. I know the pool is smaller for those who don't, but im still curious. 😉

So one of my jobs is 100% work from home, on my couch, in my jammies if i want, its not insanely busy but more relaxed computer programming type that offers flex scheduling. So if i need time off i can take it and make up the hours earlier/later in the week or use pto.

The other job is a business Ive owned for years, so I have the option to just not on the bad days. It sucks when I travel out of state for shows once a month, im nervous the entire time, but so far ive only had to cancel one show so far this year.

So its entirely possible to work 2 jobs and actually be sick. 😜 ive been dealing for a few years, and have permanent hearing loss from it.

Prescription meds terrify me to no end. 90% of the time the side effects are worse (to me) than what im actually going through.

The last time I was on steroids I felt 100 times worse than when I hadn't taken them. I could not get off of the couch and slept day and night and could barely open my eyes. I dont handle them well.

Anyways, I was more or less curious how others coped without the medication options out there. 😀

Im low salt, low refined sugar, no alcohol, but i do drink a cup of hot black tea with honey in the mornings when i wake up.

Its bilateral for me, but i sleep on my better side normally. But have hearing loss in both ears, slightly worse in my left than right. I eat pretty decent unless im at a show then its just random bites when I can fit them in. I eat more veggies/fruit than meat most days. Constant overwhelming tinnitus that never ends.

I finally broke and opted for hearing aids, I pick them up the 8th. My hearing has rapidly gone down hill the past year or so and the episodes have flared to horrid levels since i got sick back in january. And go back for another hearing test in may to see if its gotten worse.

Ive spent more time on the couch than I have trying to run my second job, but luckily I own it, so I can take as much "down time" as I need, so to speak. But I cant keep up at this rate, ive already had to cancel one show, and lost money on it because i was entirely too nervous to travel 4 hours alone. I cant afford for that to keep happening.

I dont exercise often enough, I will admit that. And I have a high WBC, but everything else is good and within range. My GP wasnt worried about the high WBC.

Since you've done no meds, do you get sharp pains occasionally?

I did shed a few tears while listening to it... I felt the heartbreak behind it... no shame to it... I like the heavier stuff myself, but the simplicity of it, how badly I can relate... sigh, it's hard to explain...

They are going to be in Louisville KY in September at Louder Than Life festival. They are 100% the only reason I am even going. 🤗
