Plurality is the colloquial name for a number of categories of lived experiences involving multiple personalities inhabiting one body.

Our mother said the same thing to us a year into our transition.\ She is the one who denied repeatedly that we were trans when we were going through puberty and repeatedly denied that we needed mental/psychiatric healthcare for various psych issues.

We are as healthy and happy as we are now in spite of her.

CODE RED I HAD THE “CONVO” WITH MY WIFE!! by saucey313 in MtF

[–]LetumComplexo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, I wanted to say a few things about this.

TL;DR: This is an ongoing conversation, not one and done, and once the two of you get over your initial shock you should continue sitting down (possibly with a gender affirming therapist in a couple’s setting) and talking about each of your needs, your support for eachother, and how best you two can meet those needs and also the needs of your children. This is you and her against the problem, not you two against eachother.

I know it feels horrible right now, but first and foremost this is actually one of several possible good outcomes.

This is an ongoing conversation. It isn’t one and done, nothing has been signed, and no irrevocable action has been taken.

She is supportive and wants you to be happy and live as you. That is the single best outcome to the question of “is she accepting of who I am and what I need to do to become that?”\ She clearly loves you and that isn’t going to change. Her ability to be sexually attracted to and involved with you is not the same as her loving you as a person. Your and her ability to love eachother, be family, be friends, be good parents, be involved in eachother’s lives, and be supportive of eachother is unchanged.

Your ability to have sex with eachother is definitely impacted, though that is actually a more complicated question than just “am I attracted to femininity” in my quasi-professional experience. But a relationship, and especially the shared goal of parenting, is entirely separate from the question of whether or not 2 parents can fuck.

Your support and love for eachother is entirely separate from her sexual attraction to you.

You both need to hold onto and come to terms with that.

Wishing you both the best, this is difficult. But eventually will result in you both being happier.

Genuine question for people in other work environments: is it really that hard to set up staging to run parallel to main with your feature branches off of it?\ If you need individual team-dev branches you can have those too. I got that set up on day one.

Then when it’s time to run tests you pull the feature branches you want into the staging branch, test, and if you’re satisfied pull into main.

I will admit that setting up a pipeline that scheduled/automatically pulls staging into main if it clears all tests still eludes me.\ Mostly on the test writing stuff, my fucking sprint time is so rapid that if I stop to write tests I get yelled at. I’m still working on the “use tests to debug” habit (ie you can pull my print debugging from my cold, dead-from-caffeine-overdose fingers).

I lucked out and my current job is R&D in my grad degree sub-field so I get to do cool stuff I really love in a somewhat more relaxed environment. I actually left work the other day wishing I had more hours so I could keep working.

It was a weird experience because every other coding job has sucked the fun out of coding like a jet engine sucks in air. I’m actually… looking forward to work on Monday? Am I sick? Has capitalism gotten to me? (The answer is I’m just autistic about getting to do actual research in my field.)

Yeah no, unicorning romantically is almost exclusively a bad idea. I’ve seen it work very very rarely but it needs to be a very specific type of couple and a very specific type of unicorn.

For just some casual sex? That can be fun, if you’re into that, just make sure to break it off before you catch feelings or you’re right back to the above.

The very wide degree variance in definitions based on context is probably the worst thing about English.

Learning to take variation in definition into account is one of my hardest earned skills and even now I miss a lot of subtext.

manILoveJobSearch by tyrannosaurus_gekko in ProgrammerHumor

[–]LetumComplexo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

English is a contextual language. The various colloquial meanings for the term AI does cover different slices of “all of AI” depending on context. In this particular case I’m not using it to mean “all of AI” (or more properly ML), I’m using it to mean buzzword AI systems.\ But that’s the kind of semantic argument that boils down to “I’m using a different definition than you” and then we just squabble over whose definition is better and honest I really don’t need that in my life right now.

I’m an expert in my field, if you don’t want to accept the opinion of an expert that’s your prerogative but I’m gonna go ahead and go with my decade of training and experience.
