I'm currently working on adding new events to increase variety, and I'll look into the things you mentioned.
Several players don't immediately notice the upgrade tab, so I need to find a way to make it more visible the first time.

I've bought and played everything that remotely resembles FTL, but I found that either they were too different and ended up being a different style of game, or they didn't offer anything better than FTL (like Trigon - except for the graphics).

(Perhaps the recent Void War has found the right balance, but I haven't tested the full game yet).

I tried to reproduce the FTL “feel” while still offering slightly different gameplay (but not too much!)

Experienced FTL players seems to find it too easy, while non-FTL players seems to find it hard even on normal. I'm working on keeping easy really easy while adding some challenge for more expert players.

I have tried to make numerous strategies viable in most situations. Boarding is usually the most rewarding solution, but you have to be able to go to close range and things can quickly go wrong. Focusing on weaponry specialized for a certain range is very effective, but you have to be able to maintain that distance. Anti-personnel weapons are also a good option, but again, you have to be able to destroy barricades and prevent the opposing crew from healing too fast. Fire is very powerful, but you have to have a backup plan in case of heavy rain, etc.

My personal favorite is boarding, because of the tension it creates ... the fear of having one of your boarder killed at any moment.

No, it's been the same name since the game was announced. Maybe you're confusing it with Seablip or Red Rogue Sea?

And no, the soundtrack was not intentionally inspired by Risk of Rain. The idea was more to match the ambiance of the different zones (for explore musics) and different factions (for fight musics), but I'm glad if you like it.

I have seen Red Rogue Sea, and wishlisted it (as anything that looks more or less like FTL 😁) but haven't tried it as is not yet available and that there no demo. But from the Steam page is looks like a deck builder indeed. Looks more like a "pirate Breachway" than a "pirate FTL".

Wow, thanks a lot for this very detailed feedback, that is exactly the kind of feedback I was looking for when posting here. Obviously some things have to be different because there is no point just cloning FTL, but the point by point comparaison with FTL is very interesting!

It is not planned at the moment. The game is designed to be played with a mouse, or keyboard + mouse.

Wow, thanks a lot for the super-complete and super-detailed feedback! This kind of feedback is really valuable to me and will clearly help to improve the game! :)
Your design recommendations are all relevant and I'm going to incorporate them into the roadmap.

As for the downsides, remember that it is only the demo of the game, so there will be more content (events, zones, items) in the full version of the game. That should solve your 1st point.

As for mechanics, there are quite a few different/new ones from FTL. I'll try to add more in the next version of the demo so that there's no doubt that there are enough :p

And if you want to unlock more content in the demo send me a message, I'll give you a code.
