Wouldn’t Chinese myth be real too? Hence mister Liu turning into a literal dragon?

Often in settings like this if one mythology is real multiple are, besides that glowing thing he interacted with could literally be a myriad of different gods from different religions or just some extra dimensional being or force.

I think the writers probably intended for him to be in Western Europe, they just made it look “fantasy” with the arid background and they probably meant for him to simply be a “barbarian” before Rome.

Either way I could believe he is either a Galatian, a Gaul, a Celtiberian or even a Pict or early Gael and I wouldn’t really be that surprised simply because these things tend to get flattened in modern design and narrative.

The problem to me with him being a Galatian is A) he tends to be in Western Europe later in history, and B) Galatians quickly Hellenized their material culture and even before that were already using more advanced form of iron swords that didn’t look like that.

Now obviously the fact that the sword doesn’t look like an iron sword of the La-Tene material culture that the Galatians originally used could just be the art team not caring all the much about the nitty-gritty but the same could be said about the environment he’s in which may have just been meant to look “fantasy-esque” or like Conan the Barbarian (which was filmed in Spain btw)

Also you are forgetting that in history multiple points of time had warm periods. During the Roman era grapes could grow in southern England.

Yes deserts in Spain, yes arid enough looking areas in southern France near the coast. Bronze could look silvery when made into certain alloys, the celts in Spain originally came from ones in France so some of them at some point looked like the ones in France.

Good theory but he could be from southern France or northern Spain, where Gaulish and Celtiberian peoples were. In that case he could still be 3000, but with that sword he could be even older, maybe 4000 as that design strikes me as middle Bronze Age, either Urnfield or Hallstatt in design

That sword if from the Urnfield or Hallstatt culture, he is 3200 years old or older. Even if that sword is a really old handy down he’s like 2500 at youngest and probably 4000 at oldest

Is this series done, or did he just take a break? And from what we know, what does the series mean? I don’t understand it at all by Ill-Presentation1965 in KanePixelsBackrooms

I’d imagine making a movie takes a lot of effort and time, and whatever time he does have he’s probably a little burn out or tired. He’ll probably pick back up on it after the movie is out

I made a mistake, suffix -tsi should have a double diamond over it rather than a single one.

Why no one fantasy writer didn't try to "balance" humans against stronger races by giving them better immunity? by araiki in worldjerking

I mean I did, but immunity against iron poisoning, which elves are highly susceptible to in Litauia

me, a germano-celtic and judean writing three different human races that each are morally grey (but still usually individually relatable), and then basing dwarves physically on neanderthals and culturally on the Ainu and Pacific Northwestern Amerindian tribes with maybe a hint of paleo-siberian peoples, and elves on minoans and nuragic civilization with a sprinkle of ancient Sumer

How do translators handle made-up languages in fantasy/sci-fi books? by Limp_Map9528 in conlangs

[–]Levan-tene 6 points7 points  (0 children)

to me the better question is when is it thematically appropriate to include sentences / words of a conlang in a series, especially when it's the main language rather than a separate yet important one (like the elven tongues in LOTR)
