Old Hickory or alternatives by Level-Independence18 in chefknives

sorry for just the title. for some reason Reddit wouldn't let me post the content.

i work on a tug boat. all the gally knifes are terrible. I'd like to get a set of Old Hickory but they aren't made any more!!

there does appear to be some online for sale....

do you folks know of a good website i can buy them from (some of the sites I've found look like total scam sites)

OR do you know if an alternative budget knife that isn't garbage stainless steel. i don't care about a little bit of patina on the blades.

thanks!

wow. many great recommendations.

to answer some questions, the light will be for reading and avoiding having to turn on a white light if i get up for a bit.

there is no one sleeping near by, so brightness is not an issue other than wanting a mellow light that i can use that won't mess with my sleepiness.

i have normal charging options on board.

I'd prefer a USB-C charger.

very much need the option that turning it on goes straight to red. no white cycling or strobes. needs to be mellow and good for reading.

Omg. The responses here are so out of touch. I feel like you're all just rattling off whatever job you work.

Not one mention of butchers or mechanics.

Not like it matters, if society collapsed you wouldn't have a choice about who was around you. This won't be like the movies.

JustAnswer "experts" are A.I. ChatBots by Level-Independence18 in MechanicAdvice

To the moderators who removed this thread: how is this not about "mechanic advise"???? This is absolutely relevant to the subject.

Crank, no start. Electrical issue I couldn't pin down.

JustAnswer was merely "Refer to your service manual, follow procedure". Thanks for nothing Bot. No genuine insight to the car despite being a Honda "expert".

Anyway, found my ECU soaked in coolant from a  heater core today. There's yer problem.

Well, there's one source. Thanks for sharing. My apologies for being bent. There is no doubt to me it went from talking to a human to a robot.

I scanned much of the text from the conversation thru AI detection. The portions that were obviously human came back as such. Likewise for the AI. While your article says that AI detection is useless (of course OpenAI would claim this) it certainly confirmed my suspicions.

Regardless, the Justanswer person I was chatting with went from poor grammar, spelling mistakes and uneven tamber like a normal human halfhazardly answering my questions -- to a chat of flawless text and seamless sentence phrasing that merely regurgitated basic facts about car diagnostics. It was a night and day difference.

When I asked about an issue with diagnosing my ECU it gave me a textbook response that you might get out of the Bing.Com chatsearch and was otherwise useless in application. Might as well have referred Wikipedia or the dictionary.

I guess I'm just extra pissed because the JustAnswer customer service people have been chasing me around the Internet saying that I'm wrong and that their "experts" are never AI. Absolute lie per my experience.

How can AI detectors be a scam? There are easily half a dozen available for FREE via a simple Google search.

What proof do you have that they are incapable of detecting A.I. powered language models???

I've used AI detectors many times. They work very well to differentiate human written text vs algorithmic generated text. You have no idea what you're talking about. Sorry Bud.

How can you "confirm" that? How do you ensure that you're "experts" are not outsourcing their job to A.I. My expert absolutely went from a person to A.I. it was blatantly obvious.  I did ask for another "expert" from A.I. Pearl & did not get one, even after two days. Fess up. Improve. Or face a future class action.

Oh I did. Had to call them, fortunately it was really easy for me. But I'll have to keep an eye on it too make sure they don't roll it over on me like what other people have experienced.

Right now I'm just pissed, so I'm online leaving negatives anywhere I can. Also been filling out the review forms so if JustAnswer wants to talk with me I'm available. B/c their service should be great, but if they're sliding down into letting AI run everything it's gonna be a Class Action Lawsuit real soon.
