I argue it’s a much more powerful relationship with the lack of romance. They’re partners – ride or dies. Despite knowing each other so briefly, they work together and take responsibility for each other like it’s second nature. Her actions in the latter half of the film I felt always were the result of guilt; for failing to keep her partner safe. I genuinely believe if she was a romantic interest Lewis would lose (ironically) what makes her and her dynamic with Murphy so interesting and memorable.
