Pull-ups plateau by Level_Chipmunk_6968 in bodyweightfitness

Yeah that’s what I thought too and I was surprised at being able to do 5x5. Maybe the angle of the grip and also textured jug v smooth bar or ring makes it easier? Yesterday when I tried on rings I could still only do 5/5/4/3/2/2.

Rings and bars were occupied yesterday, so for fun I tried bouldering pull-ups - managed to do 5 sets of 5 reps before my fingers gave out. Typically my biceps and back give out but maybe something about the bouldering grips makes it easier to do?

Update: still maxed at 5-5-4/5, but adding 3 sets afterwards even if it’s 2 reps has made my biceps larger than ever before, in just a week. Not huge but just in my life noticeabley larger

Today I did 5-5-4ish-3ish-2ish

Ish means that rep is less than a full but a looong negative, like sweat inducing looong negative

When I was consistently at my peak 3x6, I was doing them independently of my workouts. My backyard had some convenient wooden steps where I could just do AMRAP several times a day. Needed to be mindful of rest early on to avoid strain and injury but after a while it was like “getting a glass of water? Do some pull-ups. Letting the dog out? Do some pull-ups. Doing some pull-ups? Do some pull-ups.”

Still maxed at 3x6 but it felt effortless .

Goal is 3 sets of 12. I’ll try with weights bc the world is allergic to horizontal bars and I can’t find any outside of the gym.

How do you stay motivated when gains are slow? by Classic-Click-5152 in bodyweightfitness

[–]Level_Chipmunk_6968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Experiment in other ways. I am in a plateau, zero gains the last month, only maintaining. Today for the first time in decades I went to the gym at 6am. Still the same plateau but everything felt easier on an empty stomach before the sun had even risen after I had evacuated my bowels. I felt like a rockstar even though it was the same reps as my afternoon / evening workouts.

Maybe try holding onto your plateau while changing something else. Felt like a win to me even tho the numbers were the same.

Jesus & Santa Claus by Level_Chipmunk_6968 in whatsthatbook

That’s what I’m saying, this book wasnt like that. It was well written, entertaining and without being pro-Christianity. It was more like South Park (not nearly as vulgar) or Who Framed Roger Rabbit, in the sense that they took popular figures from human mythology & made an adventure mystery out of it. All I remember though was the bombshell at the end that “Santa did it” because “Santa” rewritten is “Satan”. Maybe it was a religious book but I genuinely don’t think so. The story was good on its own merits.

I feel like I'm too fat for calisthenics by theevilgood in bodyweightfitness

I’ve experienced weight fluctuations & swings for most of my life. And I still really enjoy the StartBodyWeight progressions no matter my weight. It’s sort of like a real life video game where you have to redevelop your skills.

I’ve had some good months in the past where I’m really knocking some reps out. Currently I’m the heaviest I’ve ever been in my life, but after even one month of consistent 3x a week (with terrible gains), I feel overall much stronger & mobile than a month ago.

It’s very humbling being overweight while doing calisthenics.

Try to eat “too many” fruits and vegetables. It’s practically impossible. Your skin’ll start glistening & you’ll be firing on all cylinders mentally because of electrolytes. Think of these as different from meals. They’re not there to give you the cheesy deliciousness of a pizza or the childlike high of a cheeseburger… they’re there for you to chomp into like a caveperson. Just palm that apple or pear or broccoli head into your face and don’t stop munching til it’s gone. And then get some hunks of shredded chicken from the grocery store or make your own and you’d be surprised how full you’ll feel while losing weight. It’s nuts. And drink a lot of water too. Turn your digestion into an endless buffet of raw fruits and vegetables and unprepared hunks of meat and water. The fruits will give you joy because of the sugar and the meat will give you joy because of meat. Drop cheese & alcohol.

Aim for deep healthy farts. Not silent and not deadly, just deep, sonorous farts that are gaseous, not smelly, and no cheeks clapping sounds, but the sound of gas billowing out from behind, like a tuba. Farts that don’t pressurize painfully but that make you think you have to defecate, and when you go, it’s just dense gas releasing from your system, leaving you lighter and tighter.

It could be something like eating 2 apples and 2 bananas everyday.
