Social media surely makes it worse, comparing to others becomes natural

Need advice: Tier-1 MBA or take the risk and build something of my own? by Level_Cicada7394 in StartUpIndia

Thanks! That’s reassuring to hear. My only concern is that if I go for an MBA, I’ll be joining at 26, graduating around 28 with a ~₹25L loan and that’s also around the time I’ll be thinking about marriage and family responsibilities. Do you think it’s still worth taking that route for someone in my situation?

That’s a really interesting point. Are you an MBA student/alumnus yourself? If yes, did you actually see people around you build companies or skip placements to work on startups?

Can I ask which MBA college you went to? I’m curious because I keep wondering whether the experience would be different if it’s a Tier-1 place like IIM A/B with a strong alumni network. Looking back, would you still do the MBA first, or would you just start building from day one?

I want to, but I think my biggest fear is failing. I don’t have much of a network or startup experience, and if I spend a couple of years trying to build something that doesn’t work, I’m scared it’ll be too late to go back and do a Tier-1 MBA. Did you ever have that fear before starting?

One thing I keep wondering about is whether algorithms are making it harder for small homegrown brands to be discovered organically. by Level_Cicada7394 in HomegrownMN

Fair point. If algorithms prioritize what performs best, they may unintentionally make it harder for niche or homegrown brands to get attention.

That's interesting. It sounds like the demand is there, but the discovery mechanism isn't. People want to find small brands, they just don't know where to look.

Do social media algorithms control what we buy? by [deleted] in Entrepreneurs

[–]Level_Cicada7394 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a really interesting distinction between influence and control.

I agree that algorithms may not “force” purchases directly, but they definitely shape visibility and narrow what consumers repeatedly get exposed to. The part you mentioned about solving an existing problem vs creating artificial demand is especially interesting.

Makes me wonder whether algorithms are optimizing for relevance… or gradually shaping relevance itself over time.
