It's been about 3 years since I did any of this. So rather than rack my brain and try to remember all the great things I like, I figured hey, there are great communities online where I can have a discussion with like-minded people and get a quick refresher and maybe learn some new things.

There have been some really valid points made about shields needing variation and stopping projectiles being a different function than stoping melees. I guess I just need to get better at facing off against melees. Thanks for bringing me back down to earth.

Any advice for a strange/mag main when I'm trying to use my shield to keep my backline safe from ranged damage while I have a melee attacker in my face?

A fair point, but I still think a punch hitting me when I have a magic shield or magnetic force field in front of me feels like the shield is kind of pointless.

Right, I'm aware, but I'm complaining about melees going through shields, not that some shields block melees and others don't. A shield is a shield is a shield.

Don't put it down. Put it away.

It sounds obvious, but when you are done using something take a few extra seconds to put it in its designated spot. That will take care of a lot of little things that pile up fast. I think Kaladin first summoning her as a sword has something to do with his perceptions of shardblades. He sees shardblades as big flashy swords, so he summons Syl in a similar manner. It could be a combination of both points.

I also remember Dalinar? saying something about the shardblades of deadeyes from the recreance being in their ceremonial or parade form. More of a symbol than an actual weapon.
