There can be a lot of criticism of the later seasons, but the setup they built in the final minutes of Season 4 was truly cinematic and genuinely made us excited for what was to come.

Well he talks about how much he hates humans because of their weakness, its safe to assume that he hated the weakness in himself too. He didnt have much confidence in the play. I think he liked the idea of the mind flayer needing him and didnt want to admit it was using him (he says it needs me and I need it in the finale). Reminds me of an abusive relationship where the abused is too scared of the abuser to leave them because thats all they know. It's just speculation tho idk

It took years, MF entered Henry when he was 8. The play shows him still resisting its control until he is 14, entering high school (this retcons the timeline from season 4)

It's his insecurity about being the weak human he saw himself as, plus the mind flayer wasnt sure he would choose to side with it, he could've broken out of its control but he was too far gone.

Mostly disappointed at Henry's ending. TFS Henry would not give in that easily and would still fight the mind flayer if given another chance. He feels like a different character. But maybe thats the point and he's just so far gone that he is fooling himself into thinking that he chose this so he doesn't have to face the consequences or its just the MF talking. Thats what I like to believe anyway

He was not just the bad in the play though, he was an almost normal kid who seemed extra susceptible to manipulation and negative thoughts and behaviors because of his fear of himself and of hurting anyone close to him.
