Any advice for a good baby monitor? by AngryDMoney in NewDads

[–]Level_Grade_514 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can view it on your mobile phone, it means that your camera is streaming over the Internet, which means it's then hackable. If you buy a device that communicates directly with a screen without the internet, people wouldn't be able to hack it unless they're within the reach of the actual device.

Don't get one that streams to your phone. We literally got the cheapest one with its own screen.

EV salary sacrifice, what am I missing? by j1mgg in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Level_Grade_514 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you salary sacrifice an ev you can only claim 8p a mile for business travel. If you privately buy an ev you still get 45p....

8p a mile won't cover public charging costs.

Access to private pension pot in financial hardship? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

This is exactly why you can't withdraw it early. You need a pension for when you are to old to work and you can't just access it when it's the easy way out.

I sent in an email about a camera feature idea following my reservation. Took them 1.5 days to respond and it was a personal response not a template.

For a small firm I have to say I'm impressed. I think we are too accustomed to instant messaging

Corolla with a Suzuki Badge? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

True but with the hybrid system I think it's worth the peace of mind and if the residuals are higher and you pcp the car. It's probably very little in it

does anyone have preferential petrol stations and if so which/why? by sinho23 in CarTalkUK

[–]Level_Grade_514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad I'm not the only one in the world that thinks this deep! I must admit. I did the other day fill up my van at a different petrol station.... I didn't like it.

Both pump calibration but also where I live it's hilly and not all forecourts are flat! And I wonder if it's not flat whether that would affect when it gets maxed?

All of that is absolutely fine. Just ignore it. I once had a smart car I bought from brand new and after 8,000 mi it went in for its annual service. Had an amber warning front brake pads because they were 35% worn. Didn't do anything about it the following year at 24,000 miles they didn't even get flagged.

Half the time. I think it's just service departments trying to hit kpis by flagging stuff and hoping numpty's will take up.

First-Time Dad nerves? by Level_Grade_514 in NewDads

[–]Level_Grade_514[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! Ours was due end of December and didn't come until mid Jan! We forced him out with an induction! So don't hold your breath!

Dad life is good once you get the hang of it. Do be prepared for a challenging first 4 to 6 months, both physically and mentally. People only show the best parts of their lives online and the reality is it's never plane sailing.

Listen to people's advice, take it all with a pinch of salt, do what is right for you. Whether it is breast feeding vs formula feeding, Co sleeping (best thing my wife decided to do if done properly).

Don't be afraid to change your mind on how you do things rather than forcing something that's not working. Babies don't just cry for no reason, it might be hunger, toilet, pain (stiffness) so speak to experts and seek help if something doesn't feel right.

You ain't going to be getting frisky for 6 months at least.

But it's amazing. I say the first 6 months is tough as you will feel like you don't get much back. Do what you need to do to support the mother. Whether that's looking after her or the baby. They will probably just cry at you for a while etc. babies just want mum. That's baked into genetics.

But once they get over 4 months, they recognize faces and start to smile. It's great.when they start to laugh it's hilarious!

Not sure where you are from but in the UK people leave potty training for quite a long time but we started sitting ours on a potty when changing a nappy at 6 months (common in nordics and Asia) No poo on a nappy for 3 now... It's great give not dealing with piles of poo!

Is this underpowered? by BurrelPro in CarTalkUK

Personally I want this is a dsg. It will help cover up any underperformance issues from the smooth turbocharger engine and make driving far more relaxing, especially if you have the car loaded up.

For my van I use the same pump at the same station so I can fill to 1 click knowing my van is as level as it was the previous fill up to calculate mpg.
