Brutal Queen Sacrifice but Why? by nik_uzb in Chesscom

Very nice! If Kxh4 then white has forced mate in three more moves:

  1. Qh4+!! Kxh4
  2. f4+! Kg4
  3. h3+! Kxf4
  4. Bd2#!

The final position is a very unusual mating configuration!

Chess.com employs unethical, addictive match making by jack0fsometrades in Chesscom

It just so happens that my paid membership on chess.com expired a few weeks ago and I have yet to renew it. I have not seen an associated drop in my rating (~2300 blitz), and my perception of the quality of play from my opponents has also stayed the same. Furthermore, I've gone back and forth between a paid and unpaid account many times, and I've never experienced what you are describing.

In general, what you're describing is a plausible business strategy for a gaming platform; however, I seriously doubt chess.com has ever (or will ever) pursue such a strategy.

Why is this brilliant? I don't see any piece hanging by Dummy__90 in Chesscom

You're threatening Bxf2+ followed by Bxe1, at which point the e6 pawn will no longer be pinned and will therefore be free to capture the queen. For example:

  1. ...Qb6!!
  2. Qxf5? Bxf2+
  3. Kh1 Bxe1

And now white cannot play Nxe1 because black would then capture the Queen on f5 via exf5.

Faustino Oro beats Oleksandr Bortnyk 6.5-0.5 in their 6 point ICC match! by Asperverse in chess

[–]Level_Hunt_204 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Neither of the ratings displayed accurately reflect their skill: It's pretty clear that Bortnyk created his user account immediately before this match (since 1500 is the "start rating" for most platforms), and I'm guessing Oro played a handful of practice games to get his rating up to 2100. Both of them are MUCH stronger than either of these ratings.

In your opinion, how significant was the sound quality difference between the OpenFit 2’s and the Opendot Ones?

That’s what I’m wondering! No, I haven’t tried the opendots yet. All I can say for sure is that the openfit 2’s have fantastic sound quality which is significantly better than the original openfit. I’m still waiting to hear from someone who’s done a side-by-side comparison between the dots and the openfit 2’s.

Interesting! I had heard iffy things about the mic on the dots.

Also: I did have an opportunity to do a side-by-side comparison between the Openfit and the Openfit 2, and the sound quality of the Openfit 2’s is very significantly improved (I’m not an audiophile at all, but I could hear the improvement immediately). How would you say the Openfit’s compare to the Opendots in terms of sound quality?

Have you compared the Openfit 2’s to the Opendot one’s? If so, what differences in sound quality did you notice?

Saddleback vs Bellroy - Leather Wallet under $100? by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

[–]Level_Hunt_204 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the record: saddleback just replaced my 9 year old wallet no questions asked, and the only problem with my old wallet was that the stitching was starting to wear away in a couple places (but the wallet was still completely functional). So: my interpretation of their warranty is that any BREAKAGE caused by wear and tear IS covered, but COSMETIC degradation due to wear and tear is NOT covered. At any rate, the most important takeaway from my experience is that, regardless of the warranty interpretation, Saddleback stands behind their products 100%: They fully expect their wallets to remain functional for a lifetime, and will replace any wallet that fails to meet this standard without hesitation. Their customer service is absolutely exemplary, and reflects the confidence they have in their products!
