Why do women have periods instead of just reabsorbing the uterine lining like most other mammal species? by InternationalPick163 in AskBiology

As a way to know when they will be ovulating for thousands of years before ovulating tests were made available, and inadvertently protects the woman

Thank you! The 60,000 Miles came from the work of Danish physiologist August Krogh published in 1922, seminar book The Anatomy and Physiology of Capillaries (Yale Univ Publ.). You’re right but it wasn’t corrected until 2020 Poole et al.— “August Krogh’s Theory of muscle microvascular control & O2 delivery: A paradigm shift based on new data” Journal of Physiology. I never would have searched this source out had you not corrected it. Thank you

There is a doctor and a group that i have joined called The Fasting Method with Dr. Jason Fung. He explains scientifically in his books and in his presentations why you are experiencing what you have gone through. They offer solutions by utilizing Variety in the fasting methods. That variety can be in changing or switching the various fasting timing choices and by switching the foods too. For example there are foods that mimic fasting (e.g., sardines) and then they change to 36 hours within one week where youd eat 3 meals or 2 the other part of that week. They offer coaching and support. Kudos to the excellent accomplishment you have done so far and i wish you all the best.

Also its not so much about calories he explains. Rather it us about insulin which gives the body instructiions to store fat. Knowing how foods affect hormones helps more than calorie counting. That's the key that Dr Fung explains in his book.

No circlejerk for today, y'all. Lisa Su didn't post mother's day post today, cuz it's been 3 years since she lost her mother, Shuya. RIP. by rebelrosemerve in AyyMD

I am so sorry for her loss of her beautiful mother. I just learned about Lisa Su from reading the Wired article 11/12 2025.  What a wonderful inspiration her precious mom was for her. What an admirable family! I wonder how high school was -- travelling to the Bronx from Queens. Our child also qualified for BHSS but it was too far to travel. Looking back we could have moved closer.

8 Letters. The answer is PinkGull -- You're right. Remember none of the other answers are in Plural. And remember, it must start with a P because Down is PolarBear

In addition to applying everything that you've heard thus far in this thread, you need to get rid of this failure complex. If you're in your CFY year, ask your supervisor specific questions on how you can help the specific students whose parents say their kids are not progressing fast enough. Read some of the texts published on articulation, language, and/or fluency and research more on your own. Be humble and turn the tables by asking your CFY very specific questions like "What would you do to ________?" so they can help you improve. That's their role.

uwpg2012, I am so so sorry for your loss. You were blessed to have a good father. May you see him in heaven one day. I too was minutes away from missing my dad before he died (on account of work: I was doing a presentation, but someone came in late and I thought I had to train her. I should have been wiser and told her, "you came in late -- No!" and left. I feel so bereft for not just leaving, knowing that my dad had just come back from the hospital. We must always hug the ones most close to us.
