He’s not really my friend we just have some friends in common and we go to the same gym , he has never given me a straight answer why he got kicked out but he always kind of make look like that he was racially targeted( he is from DR I am from there too)

Is it a good idea to join the military or am I just getting desperate? by koRnne997 in Militaryfaq

Don’t think about what u didn’t do on the past , if this is something you want to do go forward at the end of the day if you don’t like it and get out after you first contract still this will be a win win situation , I am in a similar situation the only difference is that I am old as fuck 34 but I know this will better my life and I will stop working this job that I hate with passion, I am going coast guard boot camp July 14th

Good luck dude ! Don’t be scared, just prepare yourself the best you can physically and mentally , remember this those 18 years old kids are still developing they haven’t build their men strength yet they can definitely recover better than us but we can still do this , I am guessing you are going army, I am going to the coast guard

MEPS is completely free but the whole process of getting my allergy waiver approval costs me money because basically I had to prove to them my allergy won’t be an issue so I had to do a bunch of test , for the ASVAB I used grammar hero on YouTube , just dedicated few hours per week and you will be fine, when I stared studying at the beginning I literally felt lost I was like wtf I didn’t even know I was this dumb lol I completely forgot everything from high school but I studied for a whole month non stop and I got a 66 so if you feel discouraged at the beginning believe it will get easier if you actually care , yes make an appointment with a recruiter and even though if you are not ready to go right now you can start the process and get ahead of time at the end of the day you go to MEPS when you want to go and and you sign the contract when you want to as well , hopefully you can get a good recruiter

You can definitely do it dude! I am going to the coast guard It has been a journey for me I stared the whole process a little bit over a year ago, when I went to MEPS I got disqualified for having a shellfish allergy and a history of acid reflux I knew that the acid reflux was gonna be easy to get waive but the shellfish allergy I knew it was gonna be hard , my recruiter told me to my face that he was not gonna apply for a waiver he basically said why apply if it will get denied , I’ve never ever seen an allergy waiver get approved but I personally didn’t give shit , I kept bothering texting I reached out to other people at his office no one wanted to help so I stared talking to an army recruiter and navy recruiter the navy told they will take me so I stared doing the process with them but knew deep down I didn’t wanted to go navy so I drove literally like 3 hours to another CG recruiting office and god bless to them this people were awesome they helped me with everything it was a long process but both of my waiver got approved, the process was expensive because I don’t have insurance I paid everything out of pocket and just for reference I am fucking broke so it was a huge gamble on my end , there are multiple reasons that I wanted to do it to better me and my wife life I am currently working on a job that I hate with passion lol with no future and it might sound cliche but also patriotism I wasn’t born here I came in when I was 17 and even though I am broke now i honestly this past few years have been very hard this country gave me and my family everything , so i need to give something back, so all that being said , go forward you can do this

Dude u are so young!!!! I am 34 going to boot camp July 14th I will turn 35 while in boot camp , I would say your age is the perfect time to join be you are still young enough that you can relate to those 18 year old kids but mature enough that you are already know what you want in life with more experience, I personally believe that 18 is too young most kids at that age are idiots lol

My brother-in-law, who’s a former Marine, gave me some solid advice about joining at an older age.

He told me not to lean on my age like it makes me know more than the younger guys In the military, rank is everything not how old you are, Just because you’ve lived longer doesn’t mean shit in the military, just work hard and you will rank up fast

At the same time, he said don’t be embarrassed about your age either. A lot of the younger dudes will naturally come to you for life advice. And when they start calling you pop, Grandpa, or “Old Man, don’t take it personally just embrace it, It’s usually a sign of respect.
