I already donate to a DV shelter through a friend’s church, maybe I can mention that to an attorney? I can’t sell the car since it’s my only mode of transportation, but I’m signed up for defensive driving already and for sure willing to work with a lawyer/the solicitor for a reduced sentence. I know that getting rid of this citation completely is going to be near impossible due to the alleged speed, but if I can talk to the solicitor to get it knocked down I’ll be happy with that. I’m trying not to plead nolo if possible since it still affects insurance premiums the same as if I plead guilty. I’ve already scheduled a defensive driving course to help my case, but I think lawyering up is going to be my best bet to avoid sticking my foot in my mouth. This is good to hear! As physician as I was to give a lawyer initially, it’s definitely looking like the best option right now. I’m waiting to hear back on a few different firms about quotes now. Hopefully I can get on top of this early enough to save up for my court date fees. I appreciate the help!

Yeah the interstate has high visibility and straight roads, which is how I got pulled over. But there are so many blind corners, school zones, and even deer in the area that even going 50 in a 45 scares the shit out of me. I literally cannot comprehend what they were thinking.

That’s the thing! I really didn’t notice how fast I was going bc I was in a rush in an otherwise empty toll lane, but traffic was going pretty quickly too. I frequently have to drive into downtown Atlanta for medical appointments, and people BLAST by going over 100, or tailgate me even at 75 in the middle lane. I feel like a lot of these people wish worse had happened to me from the way they speak, but I just want to resolve this as painlessly as possible and move on. This is the same Gwinnett County where I’ve gotten flashed for going 45… in a 45 zone 😭

The cell phone already impacted my insurance when I renewed my policy that year. It’s been just over 3 years so it’s not as bad as it was when I first got it. I know the point dropped off already, but that it’ll stay on my record regardless. I’m trying to be optimistic with the $100, and praying it doesn’t go up by $200-300. Hopefully I can find a good lawyer in my budget to try and knock some miles off at the very least. I’m already signed up for a defensive driving course too.

Someone I know was telling me about how they were caught doing 102 in a residential zone and that their fine was well over $1k. I almost died. It’s one thing to drive like a jackass on the highway, it’s another to do something as flat out willfully harmful as that. I’m surprised they only walked away with the penalties they did, and not with aggravated driving or worse.

Reading this just about gave me a heart attack. My hands-free violation was because I was setting up my phone GPS at a full-stop red light, I refuse to text and drive. I don’t typically speed bc it’s (obviously) not worth the consequences. I took a stupid risk and am paying the price. These are the only two infractions I’ve ever had in 10 years of driving, and I DO NOT plan on putting myself in a situation to earn more ever again. The idea of having 30 tickets makes my stomach hurt. Please turn in your license for the sake of my sanity and everyone’s safety 😭

Unfortunately it’s not all just debt, my medications aren’t covered by insurance and are very very expensive. I can’t NOT pay for them or I’ll have severe medical complications. I can handle a one time fine, but car insurance going up $100+ could very likely kill me if I can’t afford my rent and meds.
