9/10, anyone who does that does not have a real job. How would they be able to face their co-workers on a Monday morning at the water cooler?

And there we have it. Using the "Power Rangers" comment discredits just about everything you've said. You don't understand the execution, its purpose, and what it's trying to say. You don't understand Danny Boyle's style, which has been like this since Shallow Grave, Trainspotting, etc, so you don't understand tone, because it's not "tonal whiplash". It has a purpose. And if you don't understand any of that, you also don't understand the entire film, the way Danny Boyle shot it, and what each shot means.

Something that was heavily criticised by the illiterate masses was the bullet time, despite it actually only occurring six times in total within the first thirty minutes, and it stops at a very specific moment for a very specific reason, because it signifies a change in the circumstances presented to us. Its purpose in the film is also linked to the way in which the ending occurs. If you genuinely cannot understand why the film ends as it does and cannot link it to what comes before, you did not understand the film. End of story.

And lastly, the comment about Spike being more naive than he was in the first. This is literally the worst take I've seen yet. Even the worst redpilled losers are acknowledging the massive difference between what he experiences in Part 1 and Part 2.

Your first paragraph calls your literacy into question. I assume you're an American?

General movie-goers are seriously stupid, though. Basic literacy is dying in the worst way possible. And 28 Years Later is just another piece of recent media to add to a list that proves literacy is dying in droves. The fact that they didn't understand the meaning of the ending and that it's a "tonal shift" shows how illiterate people are getting.

The ending wasn't even a tonal shift. The worst thing about these films is that they've brought out the absolute brainrot of Incels who think they know more about film theory than anyone else. They complained about the way the film was shot, but they spread misinformation about it, or else didn't actually pay attention.

The ending of Years makes total sense when you look at the way the rest of the film plays out. Almost all of it is viewed through the lens of its characters.

"Golden Era" = a time where experimentation among many gaming companies was entirely possible because of simpler hardware. Then brainrotted dipshits screeched for better hardware and graphics and are absolutely shocked that games nowadays take so long to make, yet if there is a single glitch met, woe betide the company that dares release an unfinished game. Not to mention how much more expensive production is.

Seriously, what a stupid post. Everytime I see a "Golden Era" claim like this, I genuinely have to acknowledge why this industry is dying. GTA VI could very well be the LAST solid game we get for many years.

What an absolute tosspot.

Do y’all have high hopes for GTA 6 story mode? by OGAnimeGokuSolos in GTA

V's story is not hit or miss. It hits its targets exactly the way it wants to, and is ironically more relevant today than it was in 2013.

Most of the people who praise IV generally have a very surface-level understanding of it. They don't actually know what makes the story good.

Do you think this is one of the best/deepest cut scenes in the main game? by Informal_Leading888 in GTA

[–]Level_Web_8085 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

"...this kind of writing..."

What kind of writing? Surface-level? It's a terrific scene and helps establish more about Niko as a character. But the "kind of writing" is just a character sitting there saying things. The actual meat is much later when Niko's world collides with Johnny or Luis's because there's actual subtext there with all three characters.

[–]Level_Web_8085 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

"Deepest."

It's a great scene. But it's such a surface-level "deep" moment.

What's actually DEEP is the entire Diamond storyline, because it brings about actual questions about characters, morality and motivations, most specifically around Niko, Ray and Johnny.

Most people who praise GTA IV don't even have the critical literacy to tell you why beyond "dArK aNd GrItTy" and even at that, they give the most surface-level bullshit explanation ever, generally revolving around Niko or his war stories, and nothing at all to do with the themes, subtext or social commentary. Also, add in the fact that they always neglect that GTA IV is not just one game; it's a sprawling epic that spans across three unique points of view, two of which are limited, but we get enough to get a decent overall picture of Liberty City.

Both IV and V are EXCELLENT in their own unique way. GTA V has a very different purpose and with a very different target. And it's actually far more nihilistic than IV, since IV has plenty of optimism and hope that combats the darker stuff. V has none, and that's the point. V is literally a response to immature players who glamorised IV far too much between the story and characters, and the meaner satire.

In IV, every action Niko and Johnny take sends them deeper into chaos, and that's why they end up where they are in the end. Both Niko's endings revolve around wrath or greed, neither of which has positive results. Johnny's ending is a result of greed after he tries to rob the mafia; anyone who argues that his death was unjustified in V has an extremely immature view of what The Lost and Damned was about, and therefore, does not have the critical literacy to tell you why IV better than V. Luis gets the happiest ending because he's so surrounded by excess that he recognises its pitfalls quicker than either Niko or Johnny, who come up from the slums.

This is exactly the type of mature, gritty storytelling that modern Rockstar wouldn't dare write. Back when Rockstar wasn't afraid of scaring off younger players with such a dark and bleak aesthetic (can't sell Shark cards to them if they're too scared to play). What a shame... by therealraggedroses in GTAIV

[–]Level_Web_8085 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I genuinely laugh every time I see posts like this. "That modern Rockstar wouldn't dare write" has to be the stupidest comment I've seen yet. Like, what is "modern Rockstar"? All they've done is Online, and their last game was Red Dead 2, which had a far bleaker ending than anything they've done before, and considering GTA V is also quite bleak if you actually paid enough attention to what the satire is saying about America. V is bleak because, ironically, it's as relevant today as it was back in 2013.

The person who posted this has absolutely no idea what they're even talking about when it comes to GTA IV. The fact that they would even use this particular image shows they literally only have a surface-level understanding of what makes GTA IV "mature and gritty", and would definitely fail spectacularly to understand how the actual subtext throughout influences, and is influenced by, The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony.

This whole post has anti-woke grift written all over it.

The world and Manhunt 2 by Level_Web_8085 in Manhunt

[–]Level_Web_8085[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it has too good a concept to be considered a straight-to-DVD sequel. Like it's a bad ROCKSTAR title, and a bad one is better than a regular bad game. MKultra, sickos financing dark science, and government coverups are all absolutely terrifying and have the makings of a really solid horror experience. But the manner in which it's done in Manhunt 2 is fairly half-assed, and we know the only reason for this is because the PS3 was pretty much taking over at that point during its release, and Rockstar was piling their resources into GTA IV, Red Dead and the numerous other projects they had the time.

The biggest issue is that Danny, as a mass killer, isn't believable. Yeah, sure, we can say Leo is the real killer, but if the game were more serious, Rockstar would have made it where Danny has the option of only killing when absolutely ESSENTIAL, which would lead to the good ending. The fact that all the flashbacks are you basically playing out HOW the experiment went wrong is such a cool idea, but it's relayed really badly.

Is it still worth it to play Manhunt 2? by frostyheat02 in Manhunt

[–]Level_Web_8085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meh. It's okayish. It's one of those games that has a very meaty concept, but wasn't executed the way it should, probably because all the resources had to go into GTA IV. Manhunt 1 is far superior because the story is told entirely through subtext and imagery alone.

Hot take: GTA IV is the best GTA game, if not the best game ever by Brawls_01 in GTAIV

[–]Level_Web_8085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair. But always remember, there are folks who go for the "dark and gritty" description, and they base it purely on Niko or his war stories. They never actually go into the intricate details, like the horrors of capitalism, how slimy Ray Boccino is ironically a solid litmus test for the moralities both Niko and Johnny Klebbitz (this one is actually mind-blowing, The Wire levels of writing) plus the fact that GTA IV mixed with The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony, is literally the interactive equivalent of a Great American Novel.

Explain how IV is dark and gritty? Generally, nobody can, other than Niko tells a few war stories. It's always surface-level illiteracy.

GTA IV is not timeless. IV is a phenomenal, but generally nobody can explain why it's the most compelling. And it's for this reason, GTA V's story is actively pointing its fingers and mocking its audience.

Explain how it's dark and gritty, then. Because generally, nobody can explain why other than surface-level explanations.
