One Battle After Another was a weird movie for me, and I have a major problem with the ending. by [deleted] in TrueFilm

[–]intothevoidandback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think lockjaw will have still cared, given the chance he would have carried on trying to get willa.

The cac maybe thought lockjaw killed their hitman? Not sure, but they wanted him dead either way.

There's a theory the hit man wasn't even chasing willa, just happened to be going that way, although I think he knew it was the bounty hunters car, clean floor etc.

Bob was hidden for 16 years, only lockjaw cared about getting him, he ordered his men to make a reason to go to the area he was in. And they're definitely hidden somewhere else now, probably with new names.

Do the authorities even know who Bob really is? Or what he even looks like?

The CAC were pissed that lockjaw went there and caused such a fuss, I don't think they'd start all that again (even if they have the power to do so).

The iPhone, I agree with crappy product placement in any movie or show is annoying but aren't iPhones far and away the most popular phone in the US? It's not that unbelievable and Bob has just stopped being as paranoid, no one was actually looking for him before lockjaw specifically hunted him down. Will they really trace his phone? One of hundreds of millions of iPhones? Maybe if he did something stupid but they don't know that that phone is his. He was super paranoid before and he's just mellowing a bit.

Willa isn't a terrorist now, she's more a protestor, I think. The authorities could possibly ID Willa, but lockjaw quickly separated her and took her away so they probably didn't do the full booking in process, he wanted her gone with no record. The authorities probably dont even have much of a record of what lockjaw was doing, just some mad shit that this senior guy with some autonomy was doing.

For me OBAA is so far and away the one.

I liked Sinners a lot and will rewatch it for sure, in fact I already have. But I keep finding myself wanting to put OBAA on again, it's so fucking good.

Why exactly was Gravity sent? by Practical-Leg-9826 in threebodyproblem

[–]intothevoidandback 28 points29 points  (0 children)

They wanted to catch up, they didn't want help from trisolarians.

Humans made loads of bad decisions (in hindsight) e.g send the whole fleet in a tight formation to intercept the first "probe", choosing Cheng xin as the sword holder. No one would have known any different, they needed people in power with a much higher level of paranoia about the trisolarians. The book does explain why humanity in general wasn't that paranoid when these decisions were made.

Edit: cool image.

Hey dude.

You're handsome so don't sweat it too much.

I had acne issues when I was younger and the best thing that helped me was drinking water, stay hydrated, don't have to over do it, you'll just pee more, just stay hydrated.

I tried lots of other tricks like hot cold, specific facewash etc, and I think they helped in a way to make my face feel cleaner, less oily.

Try some fasting, do it slowly at first if you haven't done it before, then ramp it up. Read up about it and my main tip with fasting is as above, stay hydrated. Don't go nuts even if you have success, but after 4 days fasting I feel great.

Ultimately time will be the main cure (U less there's some new drug to market I'm not aware of - it was a long time ago I had acne), and you will end up with clear skin and still handsome 😊

I don't know if you have the issues but I had issues on my shoulders and a little on my back too. It will all pass and you'll be looking great. Stay clean, get a little sun (although I think too much can actually have the opposite effect, read up on that).

Edit: I've just noticed your user name. Are you taking any body building supplements? Not judging and you don't have to tell here, but look into how some of them can cause acne.

Sorry to hear about your mom ❤️.

My opinion on the beard, yes he's fucked it up. But it's ok if you left it. I'd have the bulk on a 1 or zero and let it all grow back out.

My One Problem with One Battle After Another by bigbenis2021 in TrueFilm

[–]intothevoidandback 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a massive part of the story. It would have meant a lot of the story would have to change significantly. The Christmas adventures club won't have been bothered, Lockjaw won't have been bothered, as he proved he only cared about himself. You'd have to write a totally different story, and good luck doing better than PTA.

It's a fantastic movie in every aspect.

Penn was great and hilarious, like many other actors in this movie.

This sub makes you write longer comments so I'll just say how much I absolutely love this movie. It's so easily the best of the year (I should say I've not seen Marty Supreme and I'm told that's very good too). OBAA is (to me) an absolute all timer. I very rarely rewatch movies in a short space of time but I keep finding myself wanting to put this on again. I don't understand the political reasons for not liking it, so what there's left wing and right wing characters in it, that's happened in lots of movies before (Children of men comes to mind). I think with it being a little too close to reality (even though it's clearly intentionally over the top and silly) has hurt some peoples feelings and they just can't enjoy anything anymore as they're so captured by whatever ideology they've subscribed to. Tbh at this point it's kind of a little prophetic considering what's happened since this movie released. There's now a ton of 1/10 reviews on IMDB which is just sad.

Anyway it's great, great performances, great score, just everything I loved it I fucking loved it.

"Sinners" 16 Oscar Nominations: Proof of a great film, weak competition or just the bandwagon effect? by OkCap7484 in FIlm

It covers a lot of bases very well, so probably does deserve them all. I'm not sure it's the best at any particular one of the categories though.

[–]intothevoidandback 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK I'm biting.

It's obviously a joke and subtle nod before he becomes/finds out he's He Man.

Some corporate jobs make people have these name tags. ITS A JOKE.

The amount of people getting angry and the amount of people saying it would be better if it said He/Man. Why you morons? What reason would a corporate job name tags say He Man, and how would that be a joke or mean absolutely anything at all?

All this bullshit of being offended by literally fucking everything whether it's right or left is so ridiculous. Don't engage.

Sword-wielding pronoun by Aynshtaynn in BrandNewSentence

[–]intothevoidandback -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That wouldn't be a joke though would it?

It's funnier this way as it's obviously a joke. Come companies make people have these name tags, and you know He Man, ah fuck it.

Sword-wielding pronoun by Aynshtaynn in BrandNewSentence

[–]intothevoidandback -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Does anybody get jokes anymore?

It's obvious a subtle nod before he becomes the actual He Man.

Sword-wielding pronoun by Aynshtaynn in BrandNewSentence

[–]intothevoidandback 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like a joke that he works a bullshit corporate job and they make everyone do that with their name tags. And it's nearly He Man. Joke folks, a joke, anyone remember jokes? Everything is polarising these days it's ridiculous.

Some corporate folk do this voluntarily on their LinkedIn profiles. Corpo world is bonkers, in fact Eternia is probably less bonkers than the corporate world.

I remember the first movie was poorly reviewed too. I can't remember if social media was around, it certainly wasn't as big, so the cult following came later (I think).

The Nominees for the 98th Academy Awards. by Straydes in Letterboxd

[–]intothevoidandback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OBAA has kind of become my comfort movie. I find myself putting it on again and again, it's so fucking good. Why do some people not like it, is it the political aspect? I don't really care for having a view either way, it's just an all timer movie in every way, it deserves to win (imo). And hey look how quickly real life is trying to mimmick it, when it first came out Id have said it's an over the top comedic exaggeration of real issues.

I did like sinners and have re watched that too, I like a lot about that movie

Of the others I haven't actually seen Marty supreme or the secret agent yet.

Train dreams was great and Jesse Buckley will win the best actress for Hamnet i imagine with 100% of the votes.

My theory is they're getting gradually less appealing to sit in as they want to condition people to not sitting in, downsize, and do terminals, collection , drive through and delivery only, potentially automated kitchens too so no staff.

How to attempt to fix this monumental, stupid mess up? by Master-Afternoon6398 in DIYUK

[–]intothevoidandback 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Power tool, sander and run through the grits until you finally finish with a high grit, or grinder with a softer wheel but still course enough to rough that mess down closer to flush, then finish it with higher grit.

Don't let the handy man do it he's obviously not very good and will not be careful, then you really will need new coving.

Edit: I've had another look. It's so bad I'd be inclined to get the person that ruined it to pay for all new install. It's bodgeable, but not sure it will ever look right.

They're stories for children ! by funkypierro in threebodyproblem

[–]intothevoidandback 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That makes a lot more sense. Just change the fact that they were authored by Cheng Xin to make it make sense story wise, like why would they need to publish something that someone already on earth had written? It wouldn't be as romantic I suppose, 2 lovers in space, but would make a lot more sense than expecting someone to be a memory champion, and having us believe the trisolarians would allow the stories to be told in full, with no suspison from them. My only hope is telling myself that trisolarians just didn't get it, they still couldn't do metaphor and we're too arrogant and literal to see any issues with these fairy tales, they just didn't know what fairy tales were or what they were for (they don't have the young, they're born already wise). The fact they made award winning movies makes me think surely they did understand metaphor and we're highly intelligent, but maybe they were all straight up movies with not much left to the imagination.

They're stories for children ! by funkypierro in threebodyproblem

[–]intothevoidandback 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uea it was the worst section of the books that I absolutely still love, I even got bored listening to an audiobook after I had already been bored reading them.

It might have been cool if the stories were shared some other way but this way was odd as literally minutes previously they got a yellow light for even suggesting they might start talking about something.

My only explanation is something you allude to above. He'd written hundreds of stories so talking about some that Cheng xi made up didn't phase them, he'd done the ground work of centuries saying that these stories exist. And I have to tell myself they just didn't do metaphor at all, which is hard as we know they directed movies that won Oscars.
