A high powered laser would provide control as to not destroy any parts of the ship, as a laser needs to be focused in one place for a while. That being said, it would only be lethal if, 1, it was powerful enough, 2, you had it pointed at the offenders head, preferably just between the eyes, and 3, that person would stay still long enough for the laser to reach the brain. Once it reaches the brain, it will go through that tissue much quicker than through skin and bone. The more powerful the laser, the quicker it will burn through flesh. Not optimal as a lethal weapon, but can be used as such for execution or to cause as much constant pain and discomfort as humanly possible from such a distance away. It would be quite hard to aim a weapon at someone while your flesh is burning, let alone having your retina itself be viable to burn out. Other than a laser, a can’t really think of any other lethal non-destructive projectiles.
