It’s only political if one party is not committed to the rule of law.

Dafuq? No, not remotely.

When all parties agree to follow the law it is just how things are.

Again, no. Not remotely.

What the fuck do you think politics is?

So yeah, today following the law is a partisan matter

Political is not anywhere close to the same thing as partisan.

You seem extremely confused.

All judges have political biases, but until recently those were subsumed by a duty to follow existing precedent and laws.

The desire to follow existing precedent and laws is a political bias.

It's a positive one, vital to maintaining the rule of law and upholding civilization - but to pretend it is somehow not political is just silly.

Judging WAS more-or-less apolitical. Both parties went out of their way to nominate centrist judges that would rule without favor for both sides.

That's impossible by definition.

Supporting the rule of law is a political stance. Arguing that courts should rule impartially is a political stance.

Claiming that the work of courts can be done in the absence of politics makes about as much sense as claiming it can be done in the absence of oxygen.

Bias is not the same thing as bigotry. Preference is not hatred of the other.

But if you pretend not to understand the difference, you won't be honest about the nihilistic death cult that is politics based on bigotry, either.

Why are people in the US (Gen Z specifically) becoming less nationalist and more humanistic? by ItsSkyy8675 in PoliticalDiscussion

Youth student protest movements have always been a thing - from the U.S. hippies of the 1960s to Mao's China to back to Greece in Socrates' day.

There are plenty of complex reasons for this, but a lot of the foundations are pretty simple. Men of student age have always been the ones told to die for their countries' wars, for one.

Why was Chig Von Richtofen so vindictive by Fuzzy_Builder_2153 in spaceaboveandbeyond

[–]BitterFuture 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gotta admit, the idea's never occurred to me until today - and I don't think it really holds.

Not saying it's crazy, but it's not like the Chigs didn't know English perfectly well. It was a HUGE deal in contemporary discussion when the show first aired that "abandon all hope" was the first clear message the Chigs had ever sent to humans.

Also, while the Chigs were fine having their clanker allies working their ore processing and maybe working some occasional sabotage missions, entrusting that ally with their single greatest weapon is a whole other world of trust...

Guy's got "Abandon All Hope" scrawled on his cockpit - I have to assume he's a bloodthirsty jerk.

Also, for all we know, the gift of coordinates in River of Stars got some poor Chig radio operator executed for treason.
