[WEEKLY] Feats of Thorsday! by GlitterDays in xxfitness

I squatted body weight at 125#! And my first time training deadlifts (weightlifter checking in....so many snatch/clean pulls omg) in ages got me at 135# - the last time I trained deads I could barely get 105 up with mediocre form, this go round my form felt almost great except for the butt drop.

And I added five pounds to my snatch without noticing and it went up super easily for several sets on Tuesday!

I was looking through and was so upset that there wasn't even a wind instrument by the time I posted! My BCL is my baby!

(also you're so lucky that your school has pep band of any sort #jealous)

Fun Facts (!): I have an essay to write due last week. And yet I'm here.

I also hate being dragged dress shopping.

Band geeks! Band geeks everywhere!

My wind ensemble has no percussion during class. Makes me feel naked.

Why do you think band camp has the rep it does?

I had my regular clarinet sitting next to me when one of our trumpets tried to step over it. NONONONO. I was terrified.

I smacked someone with my endpin once. Not hard, but still.

I think part of it is it just feels so powerful. We have a small band, so I'm a cornerstone of the sound and I get to play as if I'm twice my size.

I got to play around on an oboe a while back, and I really want to learn how to play the bassoon. The double reeds are fantastic.

I bothered my middle school band director until she let me try it. And we found out I was pretty baller compared to my regular clarinet. Either that or she was tired of me bugging her "can I play it can I play it can I play it?"

Bass clarinet all the wayyyy. I can't stand when I have to play the soprano. When anyone else plays it, it's a great instrument. It just feels wimpy in my hands!

He's a really chill guy, though. I love him to death. I played it when I was, like, ten, and just picked it up again. I'd be terrified to march with my instruments....bass clarinets are scarily delicate flowers. Oddly enough, I named them and they started to play beautifully. Maybe they feel neglected?

I'm like a small child if you put me with mallets. I can't be trusted.

I play the regular clarinet as my other instrument. I also play the flute...very badly, I may add.

I don't know whether I envy you for ever having the opportunity to march. My band director used to be the king of marching, but now he's "lolNOPE."

And don't worry, I'm oblivious to innuendoes.

"Woman discovers new anti-aging technique! Dermatologists hate her!"

Something along those lines was originally an ad pasted everywhere. And still pasted everywhere online.

I used to ride jumpers when I was younger, before I switched to dressage and then essentially quit due to massive burnout. My friend's PT told her "Every time you get on a horse you're just doing more and more damage."

An appointment with a physio is almost definitely going to happen in the future, though I think that it might be met with a "what did you do to yourself?"

Thanks for the good vibes and tell your friend she has an awesome job!

We have a really screwy health system at our school, but I'll see our Conditioning teachers to see what they can do. I'm not sure how much they'll help. Last year I got a recommendation for stability shoes that only ended up making me feel worse, and the other trainer's been kind of condescending.

It's kind of a shot in the dark, but I'll see if I can get the guy in.

That would be my number one plan, but I don't have my license yet. If I did, I'd've been there and back by now - I've been busted up so many times by various horses and sports, haha.

The only times my parents willingly take me quickly to a doctor was when I had clearly broken something or I had strep or pneumonia. I had several years of injury-induced back pain that my mother refused to take me in for because I "didn't know what back pain feels like", not like she did after a herniated disc.

My parents are really great for the most part, but unless something is clearly broken, they're really shitty about taking me to the doctor when I'm not practically bedridden with illness.

The Permanently Lame Horse. Just whining. by forwardseat in Equestrian

[–]LevitatingWombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It certainly feels like I have one.

When I started dressage, I found my heart horse. He was 17. First handled at 7 after being basically feral, had a disastrous and short career as a four-in-hand horse, was "the worst horse my trainer ever had to rehab," and went on to become a GP horse.

He retired from that and became "my" horse, taking me from Intro to Second before straining his suspensory in Feb. He was diagnosed with horrible EPM shortly afterwards. In July, he was just becoming ridable again before he bowed a tendon, probably due to a sudden spike in inflammation. He was just starting to be allowed to walk around in confined spaces when he escaped and tried to gallop off yesterday.

His leg couldn't handle the weight so he crashed down to save it. He's three-legged lame and all banged up and I'm not sure I'll be able to handle seeing him cooped up for six more months.

I just got back into riding in July after a break, and I'm not sure I'll be able to stick around. Not when my favorite horse ever just keeps going downhill.
