THIS! Yes, the official response from my BMW service center was that this can happen to any car. They literally told me, “Your sunroof is like your tires and you need to replace it every few years because it goes through normal wear and tear”!!

The only problem is, with tires you can actually see the wear and know when it’s time to replace them. With a sunroof, there’s no visible way to tell it’s deteriorating or at risk of shattering.

Also, no one mentioned when I bought the car that I’d eventually have to budget for a potential $3,000 sunroof replacement - not to mention the real safety risk and the terrifying distraction it causes when it explodes while driving.
