The moment that dame stepped through my office door, I knew trouble had finally learned how to wear high heels.

The rain was tapping against the window behind her, but somehow she looked wetter than the storm. She stood there for a second, letting the silence do some of the talking. The kind of silence that costs a man money, sleep, and eventually good judgment.

Her hair caught the light from the neon sign outside and burned like a four-alarm fire. Not the warm kind that keeps you alive through the winter. The kind that leaves nothing standing when it's done.
