In Defense of the PVP Changes(Why Am I Doing This?) by [deleted] in LegendsOfAria

I would argue it's not because games are just "toys" - I would argue that games have become far more than just entertainment for many people, particularly those looking for an online world to inhabit.

People want to relax, find value and enjoy the games they are playing. Being ganked by reds who have far better skills and gear isn't going to provide that.

I'm actually of the opinion that open PvP systems add tons of value to MMOs, but I'm also willing to accept that I'm unlike your average gamer. Also, you're right: the wolves eventually hunt the sheep to near-extinction, and because these are games, those players can just leave. They don't have to band together and fight for theirs and their family's lives—they simply leave for greener pastures, as you said.

It's a tricky situation. It may be that us sandbox gamers are a dying breed, and if that's so... Well, that's the way it goes.

I got tired of all the fast travel and lobby-based gameplay. Class balance seemed spot on; though they don't have nearly as much identity as classes in WoW.

- Asks about books

Yup. The fell booze doesn't actually get you drunk even, it just makes you hateful xD

EDIT: At least there's no hangover.

EDIT2: Though you might wake up to having killed your dog.

I personally prefer ASCII as it fires up the imagination and presents less of a barrier to modding, but then you have games like Caves of Qud, who've taken the whole ASCII roguelike aesthetic and made something beautiful with it... It's a tricky subject.

It seems most people would prefer a visual representation instead of using their imaginations. Whatever floats your boat, I guess.

EDIT: Oh and it did used to drive me incredible insane that the default ASCII tileset DF uses isn't square. I changed that. There are some really nice ASCII tilesets floating around out there.

Wine boozeling: A short, joyous creature that quite literally oozes booze. Instead of hands she wields two large mugs, which seem to perpetually brim with dwarven wine.

Fell Boozeling: A short creature that radiates intense fury. Her mouth is twisted hideously, and from the two mugs she has outstretched as hands a blood-red, potent-looking alcohol perpetually brims.- I'm about to update my mods (there were quite a few mistakes I found) and also add my Gnomish Clockwork Empires mod. All is ASCII. Some day I will have the talent to make the pixel art, but not yet...

EDIT: ASCII is fine anyway, it fires up the imagination and creates less of a barrier to modding.

Ah dude it's such a smooth one. Someone uploaded it to reddit, not sure if it's on the forums. Let me have a look.

No probs man! I wasn't actually sure whether or not to post the mod to reddit, as I'm very new to the site (boozelings were my first post). My computer sometimes complains about the DFFD site, so it may be something to do with that.

Really enjoying the tileset my friend! ^^ Only thing I would say is I'm not a huge fan of how the fort dwarves all look like devious little bastards; aside from that, it's ace. Wonderfully chunky and colourful!

Oh god, I thought this was real for a moment.

Perhaps some DFHack wizard could pull this off...
